Ahoy,

The middle mouse button on my Razer Lachesis has packed up.

Now, I like everything about the mouse and could quite easily buy another one, but I thought I might as well get something different, just for a change.

I was looking at the Rat 7 (I don't want wireless so the Rat 9 seems pointless), are they any good?

Any better alternatives? Cost isn't an issue and I don't want a Razer Naga!

Cheers.

Logitech G500, I think it's pretty good with the dynamic weights (you can change how heavy you'd like the mouse)

Steelseries Sensei looks very nice but not sure about the ergonomics...its a ambidextrous shape so maybe a moulded right hand shape would be more comfortable.

I have just got a Rat 9, comfort wise its pretty good and all the buttons except the mode button are easy to reach. I think they did that on purpose with the mode button so you don't accidentally press it in games.

The sensor is a bit...finnicky I've found though. I've never experienced this before with a mouse but sometimes the tracking is very twitchy even with low sensitivity. Maybe it needs a decent mousemat, I use it on a wooden desk surface.

I've found that mouses tend to be a very personal choice. And no matter the opinion its ultimately down to what you think looks appealing and what features you want.

But for me personally i love the Roccat Kone+ . Adjustable weight to make it lighter/heavier, scans the mouse mat surface to optimise its performance for the mouse mat you have and its laser with a high dpi and changeable colours!

Take peoples opinions from here, look around check reviews out and see what mouse matches the things you require.

I'm also in the market for a new mouse. Currently using the Razer Death Adder which I've been very happy with but the scroll wheel is on the way out. Want to try another brand this time as I've also had a Razer keyboard fail on me so I'm not convinced by their quality control.

The RAT7 looks the business but when I tried one it felt very shallow. Is this easy to get used to after having a fairly tall mouse?

I'm currently leaning towards the RAT 9, as I think wireless may actually be nice...

I've read plenty of reviews of the RAT 7/9 and overall they seem to be held in high regard.

The Logitech G700 looks rather nice too, but I haven't read much about that one yet.

My current concern with the RAT mice is that the rear part of the mouse seems to be raised quite a bit (though maybe you can lower it). With the Lachesis I rest my wrist behind the mouse - if that makes sense, and then sort of have my hand over it, rather than actually on it.

I assume this is the case with most mice, but it's difficult to tell!

I love my CM storm sentinel
Doesn't seem to be the most popular out there but I find it very comfortable, software is great and being able to switch sensitivity and program modes (which i have set up for different games) on the fly is brilliant. Also the build quality is fantastic and it feels wireless with the cable braid being almost frictionless.

The method you describe is the ideal way of holding the rat, the claw grip.

Yeah, I've just looked at a few videos of it and it does seem to be fine like that. It just didn't look it from some of the pictures.

I also like the fact you can adjust the length of it.

I'm pretty sure I'll go for the RAT 9. There are times when the mouse wire annoys me so it would probably make sense. :p

How do you find the battery life on it? Do you just slide out the battery 'cell' and then charge it, swapping it with the other one?

Yup, swap it put it back in the receiver so it charges up so there is always a fully charged battery to go.

I've been swapping the battery once a day with pretty long times spent at the computer, I find the charge length perfectly agreeable.
