The best overclocking cpu???

I'm now makin a new comp and i want it a dual core cpu and overclock it to at leats 3.5GHz which one *** be the best to buy???

Any of the wolfdale cores will be excellent clockers. Beware of impending price drops as i7 becomes more popular though.

How much you got to spend,what board are you thinking of buying, Intel's latest wolfdales will clock a quite a bit higher than 3.5GHz

Got 4ghz on the e8500 below and it was an easy clock TBH.

If i was bothered i'm sure 4.5ghz would be fairly easily attainable!

Agree with all the above, I have the 8200 and it's clocked to just below 3.5GHz and I've hardly touched the vcore yet. The 8400 is on "this week only" and will probably hit 4GHz relatively easy.

the E6580 goes to 3.6ghz on stock cooler even though mine was 80c but thats cos i put the thermale past on wrong

Yep. Big multiplier for relaxed RAM speeds, runs very cool, even with the stock cooler. This is very good CPU.

As above really. E5200 is a cracking cpu although they are a bit hit and miss when it comes to clocking. Some struggle to hit 3.2-3.4Ghz while other's will do 3.6-3.8Ghz. If money is'nt a problem i have so far got 4.5Ghz out of my E0 E8500 with 1.4v.

I don't usually miss out on a good clocking cpu but this time around I gave the wolfdale cores a miss but now I feel like I missed out on some fun. The 8600 E0 look like an overclockers wet dream.

i would say that any cpu has the potential to be a great overlcocker it all depends on the overall set-up and a bit of luck tbh. I had a dualcore chip, started at 1.8Ghz and at first got it to about 2.1Ghz with my old system. Then changed to current set up but tried with my old chip and nearly got up to 2.8Ghz! And every siblge part is going to be different as well. If overclocking was that easy no one would be on here having any problems!

Thanks for all the help! I didn't know you could overclock a processor so far on a standard cooler! I like the idea of the E8400 and i'm gona get the Shuttle XPC SP35P2 sounds a good setup?

I know what you mean, ive been considering an E8600, ive pushed my quad as far as itll go, which has been fun. But i would love to see what i could eek out of a 45nm dual core.
