ive got a core2duo, im just about to the lap the badboy see if i can get temps lower and hit 3.6 with nice temps, but how shall i apply the thermal paste, shall i do a line from the top to the bottem (as thin as possible) or use the put a little bit in the middle and let the heat sink spread it?

quick reply please as im waiting to lap it now,

I normally put a dot in the middle and let the HS spread it, it seems to work well, at least when I take the HS off its well spread

well i dont belive this lol, my idle was 43, now its 37...... lapping for the win!!!

EDIT LOAD IS 55!!! it was 63!!!!!!!!

hi, ive been reading a few threads and was wonder what lapping was? you referred to it here. could someone please explain please.

sorry no pics :( its back in my mobo and its running sweet so i dont wanna get it out, i only used 2 grains 800 then 1300 (i think) it doesnt actualy specificly say just has those numbers on the back

well its not actualy that, its making the heat speader as flat as possible, the copper showing thro is just a by product of taking off the silver coating that covers the copper

Silver has higher electrical and thermal conductivity than copper... you sure it's not aluminium that lapping removes?
