The Budget

No, the council never, under ANY circumstances, has a legal obligation to house you.

WRONG :p:D

"the Housing Act 1996 (Part VII - Homelessness) states that all Councils have a legal obligation to find housing for certain people.
To be offered accommodation, you must be"

eligible for assistance
homeless or threatened with homelessness within 28 days
in priority need
not intentionally homeless, and
have a local connection to the Borough

The same as Solihull

Unfortunately, the ability to actually think is not required to express an opinion, or indeed to vote, which is why we get so many stupid but popular decisions from our governments.

The above is just another example of abject stupidity and refusal to accept responsibility, usually from Labour voters.

I really wish there was a way to test voters, simply on the policies and who has what policies or something, it would cancel out half the votes(probably a lot more than that) by failed people who have no idea what they are voting for.

Politics should be covered in FAR more depth in school so people have a tiny bit of understanding of how things work, something simply like how debt and deficit aren't the same things for instance.

Not entirely, but anyone with half a brain could see a massive and painful depression coming under Labours spending plans, debt up to 1.4trillion in 4 years and Labour thought a 50% increase in our debt from their new plan was a GOOD thing, it honestly beggers belief. The fact that anyone voted for them is ridiculous. People just don't seem to understand we aren't in any way nearly as influencial as 50 years ago and enourmous debt won't continue to indefinately be bought as it has been. We've got the biggest deficit in the EU and we've got the fastest growing debt and deficit in the EU, all thanks to Labour.

If we don't get it in check we're all completely screwed, it doesn't help that too many people went through this recession scared from papers hyperbole about losing their jobs, not having enough food and I dunno, Daily Mail probably threw in the idea of civil war over resources.

When it went by with very little fuss people think a recession and eventual depression won't mean anything at all. The problem is we avoided large problems by employing those who lost jobs in public sector jobs or put on benefits, with HUGE spending on public sector increases to cover these jobs and huge increases in benefits spending for years which is a large part of the reason we got into a recession in the first place. The problem was Labour borrowed their way out of a short term situation they got into by borrowing too much.

They've delayed the problem short term but made it much much much more severe in the long run. The UK really didn't experience the recession as we borrowed our way around it.

People will be shocked, completely, if we hit a real recession of proper depression which without spending being cut dramatically, will happen.

Yeah it don't matter what you earn, everyone who works will be able to earn £1000 more before they start paying tax.

Of course, this small amount of around £220.00 that most of us will have extra per year will mean diddly squat because of the vat increase that will cost me around £550. Then taking inflation into account with no pay rises will knock me down another £550-£650 per year.

To be honest I only work to ensure those that those less fortunate than me that don't have a job can be ensured enough money to buy food. Problem now is that i will have to buy tesco's brand food from now on.

:(

And why does having to buy Tesco branded food equal such a terrible thing?

Well that act just goes to show how badly local councils are informed of such things.

I was told (having one child and a pregnant girlfriend) that there is nothing they can do to even help look for accomodation and the waiting list was measured in years!

Would you rather have:

20% of £X million?

Or

28% of of £0?

If I was the government, I'd set tax rates that maximised cash flow from tax receipts whilst minimising political ill will (though, to an extent, they can get away with this at the moment). Are you saying then that the taxes corporations pay is dwarfed by VAT receipts? That may be true but I have no information on it.

Irrespective, I don't think panning the consumer whilst pandering to Digby Jones et al is the wisest move.

If they didn't even offer you sheltered accommodation you could have sued them.

Looks like you missed a trick ..

And you screamed

BS. Plain and simple. Again.

It turns out I was right and you were wrong after all because of your situation as discussed? Do I get any kind of apology maybe after your vicious attack which we have proved was totally undeserved as I WAS right? :/

Nothing short of a fierce kick in the nadgers will rescue the British economy. Here's hoping Osborne takes a good run-up.

:D

If the country is screwed after I finish my masters next year I'll be coming to say hi in Oz.. ;)

That is if China doesn't go into recession, in which case i'll be just as screwed there...

I'm saying if I was a CEO I'd have my accountant work out where the cheapest place tax-wise to operate is, and move our operation (and taxes) there.

Indeed they can. It is ILLEGAL for the council not to provide shelter within 24 hours for anyone whatsoever requesting it.

It may be 'sheltered accommodation' rather than a house specifically, but indeed yes they can.

BS. Plain and simple. Again.

You stated they have to provide it with-in 24 hours of it being requested, which is what I said was BS.

It's quiet clear from the Broxtowe council website what the procedure is, and there is no way all of that will be done in 24 hours from the original request.

So I stand by my original comment.

The VAT increase is costing you £550 per year?

So you spend £2k per month on main rate VATable goods?

I've been looking for you, but can't find anything.
If you are still wondering tomorrow, they publish the Hansard record at 8am.
Though usually they release the note forms 3 hours after. (I think!)

Cheers =]

It should be an easy question though, he's the chap that was recently elected to be head of a body. He started talking just as everyone got up to go for lunch :p
