The Budget

Near the bottom they make some very good points.

Im sure i read somewhere that this Public Sector Pay Freeze will save £3billion a year.

And to quote the above link.

"£4.7bn could be raised every year by introducing a 50% tax rate on incomes over £100,000 "

But hey ... Its the torries, wouldn't expect anything different. Take from the poor and give to the rich ;)

Actually i shouldn't be so harsh the Torries aren't giving to the Rich possibly. Just not taking either ;)

I'm not moaning about the budget, but I would rather pay for black cabs then get a night bus :)

Which is down to choice, not necessity. Money splurged in such a manner is down to the person, they take full responsibility for it being wasted. ;)

Tax the rich too much, and they bugger off to another country. They can afford to after all. Then you lose the tax you were getting, plus the money they would have been putting back in to the economy buying stuff in the UK.

You hear this argument all the time, yet where is the evidence of this happening when taxes have been raised for the rich ?

What would you do if you were wealthy enough to move elsewhere to get better tax breaks? Gloomy UK or somewhere in the Med?

If only we had responsible citizens like in Germany, where a group of millionaires banded together asking the Chancellor to tax them more to help the country out of debt.

This Robin Hood BS irks me. The rich *already* pay over the odds (1) due to the nature of percentages, (2) due to the uneven tax brackets. It would be criminal to introduce even more higher tax brackets. Where is the incentive to better oneself?

50% tax :(

I earn nowhere near that, but I can imagine how depressing that would be.

Naah .. the more money you earn, the less you care how much goes on tax.

When I moved into the 40% bracket I just thought 'wahay - more dosh' - not 'actually the 40% bracket is too much, so I'll reject this pay rise!!'. Obviously.

What's the point?
You'd lose, what? 70% of every pound in tax, NI, pension... sickening.

When I come to power there will be one flat rate tax - it is the fairest way.

Well why would you reject the payrise? You only pay 40% tax on >40% threshold earnings.

What it does mean, however, is any pounds you earn after the threshold are less valuable. That is, you are rewarded more for the first x hours of the day than the last y.

Because you said 'Where is the incentive to better oneself?'

Well, to put it simply, the incentive to better oneself is there so that you get more money to spend on PC games. Even if tax was at 80% above £100,000 - I would want to earn above £100,000 because I could spend the extra money (20%) on nice stuff! I wouldn't think 'I won't bother going for that £250,000 job because tax is too high', I'd think 'I want more money - hoorah!'

If you had 1 flat rate of, say, 25% - those benefit-claiming layabouts you hate would have EVEN LESS incentive to find work, where-as people would already have a system to get more money than they need, would get even more money.

Your system would only be fair if every pound, for every person, required an equal amount of work to make. But in the real world having money breeds money. Your system is rejected by the most right-wing of parties .. :(

This isn't the Wednesday joke thread.

Your point about caring less about tax because you earn more is ridiculous too. You mean to tell me that you wouldn't care if 50% of your wage went straight to the government

"Yay, I get paid £100,000 this year. O... wait."
*checks balance*
"Ok.. so it's more like £50,000 after tax. Not bad"
*pats self on back*
