What are they doing with 50p tax rate? Have they not seen how much the country hates Rich people? The recent economic crisis has just made this hatred even bigger. Now they are considering dropping the tax rate, they are just taking the micky.

And I am pretty sure there are "rich" people who get sick of going to work to fund the Jeremy Kyle brigade.

I'll have a little giggle in two years when applicants dry up for nursing and teaching posts.

I mean, who in their right mind would want to work for an employer such as the government nowadays?

At least in a few years I will be able to enjoy my Westfield on traffic free roads as everyone buggers off down south.

50p cut is going to help those who are very rich, 150k salary is what I would say as very rich. And only a small % of that tax is going to fund scroungers, the rest is going to fund very vital services that we are now lacking.

I fully support the regionalisation of public sector pay, the public sector is there to provide services to the population, not as an engineering tool, and as such should always be run in the most efficient way, which fixed national payscales cannot be, as you either overpay for staff in low wage areas or underpay and get bad staff in high wage areas.

My big query is around whether the chancellor will introduce some new good anti-avoidance and tax simplification methods or not, and whether we'll actually start seeing public spending cuts, rather than just a slowdown in the increase of state spending.

What else are they going to do? Pick money off money trees  I read a while ago something like 55% of all uni graduates go to work in the public sector as their first job  Crypto-socialism.

The UK is completely ******.

Taxation and the law should never be used to enforce prejudice.

Higher taxes on salary encourage the rich to either leave or move to more tax efficient ways of payment.

Firstly thats not evidence, its the opinion of a right-wing think-tank.

Secondly, you haven't read the actual report have you? If you feel the CEBR's opinion is credible then you must acknowledge that even they claim the 50% tax rate will raise revenue for several years.

50p cut is likely to be going in because it's both ineffective and very unfair. Stepped tax bands in general are highly unfair, but the 50p rate is driven by jealousy rather than any sort of fiscal justification.
