The Call Centre

I watched this last night on 3 for the first time (new series probably)
shocking behaviour from that boss. really unprofessional
there is time for banter and light heartedness, but throwing sweets at people and teasing because of being ginger with a stutter
I expect a lot of its acting up to the cameras too. I would hate to work in that place for more than a month

Just seen it. He is right though, HR's methods are generally *****. Interviews always boil down to how much you like the cut of someone's gib - you just spend the interview looking for the official reasons why or more likely why not offer the job.

I think his heart (Nev) is in the right place, but his execution leaves a lot to be desired.

The "boys club" culture would do my head in and I know I could never work there.

At his heart Nev is the same as every other CEO - in the first series you see some of that when he's giving his senior managers a rollocking and later when he has to make loads of people redundant. At all other times he plays this character to get the most out of his sales force. Fair play to him as I guess it works.

I couldn't work there either, but the sort of boys and girls who do work there on the phones seem to enjoy it.

It's all put together for TV. Surely a 'business' as bad as this would fail over night and sink?

The oposite actually! while obviously it will be exagerated for TV ie they leave out the really dull stuff the company really is like this and is actually pretty successful in it's market.

Cold call sales is a very very tough business to make money in and keeping and motivating staff who get abused dialy is never going to be easy! I'd hate working their but not because of Nev but because the job seriously sucks.

They should have done it the way that Channel 4 did Educating Yorkshire and 24 hours in A&E with wall mounted cameras that just record 24/7

That way nobody has any idea if they are being filmed or not and just acts natural. Having a camera crew around just encourages idiots like this to act up to the camera.

I cant get over how he does some of his interviews

"Are you ginger"

"We have a policy here, no gingers, so..tell me about this stu u u u te ter"

Oh god :p

You have to laugh, I knew the girl with the green face and tattoo's wouldn't last, far too cocky.

And the old new woman who goes nightclubbing with her 18 year old family member who gives her "jaaggarrrr bombers" :p

Class TV, but yeah you are right, when you are working for a cold calling company you have to keep the morale up as it could get you down very quickly with so many rejections.

As for the people saying he is too unprofessional, I have seen far too many companies where high level management (IE Senior, Directors, CEO) couldnt give two flying ***** about their staff, isolate themselves in their own bubbles, not get involved with their staff and generally lap up themselves. Certainly not a way to go if you are running a business or company.

Nev certainly does magnify his character, but it seems to work, and morale I would say there is pretty good for a cold calling company who's daily rejections could hammer you down and make your day crap in an instant of a moment.

He is obviously looking for a particular type of character to work there, so as he says, if you cant live up to it, the job in a cold call center may not be right for you.
