There is cleaning for a fiver at Russian Ivans car wash then there is this.

I dont think this will last for ever but thats no reason not to nick a few quid while its still in fashion.

I think this is closer to Ivans car wash though given what you pay and what you get. He applies wax without preparing the paint first. Seems like this is a car cleaning service rather than detailing?

Maybe I am biased having got my dads new car done for 400 quid, I dunno. Just seems like the market is flooding with people with no more actual skill than us amateurs? Which is fine but does this thread need to fill with 'I washed a clients car' posts each day, imagine if Ivan joined :D

It's a car cleaning thread, not specifically a detailing thread ;)

And of course we offer cheaper services.. if we only offered machine polishing and paint correction then we wouldn't get very far at all.

Have I posted this one in here yet?

Got the car back at the end of the month aswell as the owner is doing a few trackdays.

Ohh and he's also taking me to one at Oulton Park ;)

AND he's getting his mk2 in a few months so i'll get my grubby little hands on that aswell! :D

I may well be showing my inexperience here but is it really a good idea to apply wax without preparing the paint?

I've never bothered claying my cars and waxed them.

Wax may perhaps not last as long because its not been clayed, but it lasts long enough for me not to care about it. Dont think a client will care either if it lasts 3 months or so.

Its not a particularly bad idea.

I love the way you accuse others of knowing no more than "us amateurs", yet you appear completely clueless.

Yes, totally my point. Which is only a few people in here seem to really know their stuff. I, obviousl. am not one of them but what about charging...

Why would you apply the wax without polishing the paintwork first to prepare it? The wax will be on there for months so you're going to have trapped in dirt sitting between paint and wax for months and then the dirt on top that develops over time anyway!

Knowing that alone would make my head spin and it would have to be polished and sealed properly :p

So being (self-confessed) clueless, you are in no position to be judging those of us that do it for other people, or the service which we offer?

Like I say, the results and testimonials speak for themselves - 1 job thats been done, and two that are waiting to be done based on the results and testimonial from the previous job, have all have all had a local "valetter" that used to do it for a living, yet just set up on his own, and were not happy with the service or the results.

Fox's problem is always the same - it has to be done right.

Fox can never do anything on impulse just to see what its like.

I agree with this but when you pay someone to do a job surely its because you want it done right?

This whole craze reminds me of 10 years ago when everyone was charging people money to make a website in front-page, calling themselves yea developers and making the real pros look overpriced...

There's no dirt. Just contamination spots you can't see, only feel.

And you get what you pay for.

Yes but containments = dirt (what else would they be?)

It's much nicer running your fingers along and the paint being buttery smooth instead of like a micro stubble on heavy areas!.

because the sort of person who pays £45 for valet doesnt care or know whats "right" and just wants "a shiny car"

yes, but your obsessive almost to the point of OCD at your own admission. Most normal people dont care and just want it shiny.

That's fine but these people are washing cars for a living not detailing. A proper detailer won't offer that sort of service just like Norman Foster won't design you a conservatory.
