I meant better wax in the sake of application and wiping off properties btw.

That isn't an important point when buying wax, people buy wax to protect the paint and to look good.

How it comes on and off is the last thing to think about in the grand scheme of things once you also factor in cost and how waxing only really needs to be done twice a year.

Not found the need to change from 476, it does the job perfectly, now it's time to test out the resistivity to a Scottish Winter!

Gave my dad's new car the full treatment today! I'm jealous of the lovely colour scheme :( haha

OK, took some pictures this morning ( less than 24hrs since cleaning and it's already got a thin dusty film, boo!). Process was a good wash down, clayed with the Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay kit, another quick wash, then applied the Meguiars Cleaner Wax which came with the kit. Supposedly its a cleaner/polish/wax all in one.

It's given a nice shine and I was going to reinforce it with a final layer of my Collonite 476S, however when I opened the tin, it had some grit and bits in it. Didn't want to get that on the paint so Ill leave it for now. Gives me a good opportunity to try a different wax anyway, a guy at work raves about Dodo Juice. I may pick it up and put some on in a few weeks before the worst of the winter weather.

So as I said early, gave the Volvo it's first proper clean since buying it. Finished off with a coat of FK1000P which gives it an awesome look.

Ok, let's just leave it at that.

Hi all, I've cleaned my Honda Prelude recently and was happy with the results for a first time attempt at a good clean using Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnauba car wax (Step 3).

Here's is a pic, sorry about the photo quality of my old k750i :p

Now every time it rains this happens, I think its called water spots although the dirt is very loose/powder like and I think will just hose off

Any tips on how to stop this? Some people online don't rate the wax I used too highly, would another solve/reduce the problem?

gonna happen with any wax tbh, just airborne contaminents that are picked up by the rain, dust, pollen etc.. Can be a pain in the ass with a dark coloured car if it rains then beats down with sun and bakes that crud on there.

I get that grimey stuff all the time. Planning to do a wash/clay/polish/sealant soon, hopefully that'll keep me going over winter.

Got mostly Autoglym stuff but I've added Dodo Juice, Bilberry, Megs Endurance tyre gel and Citrus Tar Remover to my bench, also going to give 99p Wilkos QD a try :)

That's the kind of sheeting any good wax gives you :p 476s is like that almost year round :D

Thanks for the replies guys :) I hosed off the surface dirt today and the water doesn't sheet at all like the YouTube vid which would explain the rain leaving water spots as it settles on the car and dries. :(

So there might be a problem with the application/technique or the combo of polish/wax I tried so I'll read up some more about car cleaning and maybe buy some of the 476s (As that sounds like exactly what I need in a wax) and give it another go in the future.

I put 476 on my car a couple months ago and I'm very impressed. It stays cleaner in general, and the two times I've cleaned it since it has been very easy with the majority of dirt coming off with the snow foam. 476 also seems to hide minor swirl marks really really well.

Sheeting seems to need a surface that is angled so it can run straight off with gravity. If the surface isn't angled then you get beading instead. At least that's what happens on my car.

The only thing i find with 476s is that its not the easiest of Wax's to remove and its rather dusty.

I do like using it, but its very rarely (once or twice a year max).

I've just bought a pile of new trim for the car. It's genuine BMW Vavona wood trim. It's real wood, but its coated with either plastic or some sort of laminate or something. I'm assured its in good condition but as it's out of one of the last E39's, its going to be about 8 years old therefore it will have swirl marks etc in the coating.

Whats the best way to tackle this before I fit it? What products can remove swirls from this sort of material?
