what pressure washer would people be buying for car use at the moment? Is it right that the aftermarket foam lances are way than those that come with the machines?

I have a Nilfisk. I had a Karcher several years ago, but it failed after about a year and a half...apparently this is common on the lower end Karcher models. The Nilfisk has been fine for 3-4 years now I think.
Yes, the lances that come with the machine aren't really proper snow foam lances as I understand - they might be able to distribute some products, but for a proper foam lance, you'll be better off buying an aftermarket one.

I had a thread on this not so long ago. I ended up with a Nilfisk C110 (the smallest they do IIRC) and it was plenty powerful with a proper snow foam lance from Cleanyourcar (https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/snow-foam-lance-various-fittings). To hit minimum order from CYC and get next day delivery I also ordered some Korean drying towels and some BiltHamber auto foam.

So, having bought a new car I want to clean it properly but truth be told my previous cars have just had a bucket and some cheapo Halfords wash along with a soft sponge, I want to look after this car and am consumed by buying all the kit like the meguiar’s stuff such as wash mit, wash and wax etc along with the bucket and grit guard as the current bucket i use is just manky…but someone tell me am I wasting my money, is there a better place to buy from than Halfords or a better brand to buy?

bucket and grit guards don't need to be anything special

just make sure that when you use grit guards is to make sure you pull your hand over a grit guard in the water to take the stuff out of your mitt

do you have a pressure washer ?

i need to make a list of what i have / getting myself lol

There is a wealth of knowledge in this thread. I will recommended what I was recommended to pay it forward...

1. Jet wash - Nilfisk C110 is adequate
2. Snowfoam lance - PA Lance
3. Korean Microfibre
4. Bilt Hamber Auto foam (same website)
5. Buckets + grit guards, wherever you can get it from. x2
6. AutoGlym Rapid Detailer for touching up/bird poo
7. Decent brushes (Muc Off/ Megs)
8. pH neutral shampoo
9. Megs lambswool wash mit
10. Black car - AutoGlym Ultra Deep Shine; any other/lighter colour - Super Resin Polish
11. AutoGlym Ceramic spray is a good once over

This guys videos are great:

I haven't felt a need to go heavy duty on the door shuts - I just go over with a microfibre afterwards with quick detailer. The Megs brush is cracking for wheels though.

If they're fine for the wheels, they should be fine or the door shuts. There's a couple of pictures on the first link that shows them being used for that very job :p
The worst that'll happy is some swirl marks, but I doub't you'd notice them there. Just be a bit careful around the check strap, sometimes these are greased, so you might not want to wash it off (or if you do, careful about using that brush anywhere else until it's thoroughly cleaned).

I've been building up supplies ready for when my new car arrives.

Already have a number of edgeless microfiber clothes, towels, mitts and Bilt Hamber Surfex HD.

I posted recently about the struggles of finding a site where they had everything I needed in stock, but came across https://www.iodetail.com. No affiliation with them but the turnaround was quick, included some sweets in the box and was even sent a personal email to thank me for my business.

Does anyone know or can offer an alternative,

I'm trying to get hold of some optimum opti-clean concentrate to dilute down and use in a foam sprayer forca waterless wash

how NOT to wash a car

That pressure washer doesn't seem to put out much water.
Didn't know snowfoam made a good shampoo.

For my quick wash I do put AS Duet in the Lance and do it that way, 1 bucket of clean water to rinse the mit. Then jetwash off, don't bother drying if I'm in a hurry just done rinse aid stuff sprayed on.
