Well ignoring the 'is he a builder or a kid' debate 
If it isn't in the garage and it's cold I'll take a bucket of warm water (not hot) and just pour it over the windscreen. It removes all the ice and de-mists it at the same time.
As my car will quite happily ice up on the inside of the windscreen the bucket of water is a god send - you don't want to be scraping ice on the inside
Now if only my hand brake cables didn't freeze

Not that it matters as deluded is deluded but I saw 12 on his Beeboo thingy and assumed it was his age. I don't do facebook thingys so forgive me for not being an expert on such things.

The ice inside is a bit ****.
My bowden cables freeze too, but I leave the hand brake off.

almost the only way to steal cars/vans these days are with the keys.
So Van sitting there running, is just asking to get nicked. Especially in London.
If it was just a opportunist theft he will probably be driving it around still and it will ping up on some ANRP camera. However a professional will have it hidden somewhere already....

Like Telescopi I'll add my practice, which is normally to sit in the car wishing Skoda had thought to put heated seats in as my upper back and part of my legs get a bit chilly.
Although after a week my engine normally breaks and I need a new one, due to the damage I do. (Has anyone heard that stupid ass 'advert' on some radio station (magic maybe) where the car is moaning about its engine being left running and pollution or some such?)
