Think the cup is about 90 kilos lighter iirc, could be wrong though.

Aye, they don't have aircon IIRC so I imagine thats a fair weight saving.

Clio Cup sounds perfect for you, I have to agree. Well within budget as well.

Now to me, the pefect choice would be a Clio Cup
I've always had the impression from this forum that you have quite a similar driving style to me, in which case I would absolutely recommend the Clio Cup.

As a comparison, I went from the VTR 'enemy', ZetecS, to the Cup & have found it to be a much much faster rewarding car to drive hard. Once your key'd into it you can absolutely monster B-roads, it's capability its awesome.
I've tracked mine & also taken it on driving holidays, when your out for a blast it will not fail to leave you satisfied. However it does require the respect of 100% concentration, weight transfer happens easily with brake/turn combo's & must be kept on top of at all times.

I can't remember your day-to-day mileage but if excessive this is where the Cup doesnt compare to competition. Motorway driving is lacking a 6th cog & the compromise on weight through thinner glass & sound-deadning becomes apparent, but no where near the extent to the likes of Elise/VX etc.

The 172 Cup in all honesty is a world apart from full-phat models. Drive the two back to back with beans & the suspension & tracking difference is very apparent. The lack of ABS is countered with a superior servo/pedal feel arrangement, very capable at speed. Maintenance costs sit between a VTR & CTR, tyres being £60-70, front pads £30-50, servicing 2yr/12k.

I was looking forward to meeting you at Manchester Meet'1, if you manage to make the next meet i'm sure I wouldn't have a problem with you taking mine out for a wee spin.

Yep keep your eye on my sig, will announce mm3. :)

Also i can vouch for the 172 monstering a roads, quite scary actually just ask agw, he screamed like a girl in one. :D

Cheers for that Coco, my daily mileage will be virtually zero as far as commuting goes, and with me living in Chesterfield with the Peak District nearby for a good thrashing it would get used what its meant for. The only motorway commuting would be when I go to see my dad from Stockport to Preston every couple of weeks. What RPM does the Cup sit at, when at cruising speed on the motorway 70/80ish? The car would be taken on a couple of tracks during the summer most probably.

Cheers for the offer, but I think it's a bit much to go for a drive in someone else's pride and joy. I'd be scared of stacking it, at least with a dealer I won't have any concerns about thrashing the pants off it :p But I definately want to come to the next meet, seems most of the Manchester Meet are like minded guys so look forward to coming and meeting you lot and having a look at a couple of cups!

Cheers, Paul

That trip must only be about 50miles!?! It can gobble that up fine, it's more if your hitting ~150mile trips on a hot day. 80mph is a nudge below 4,500rpm, once you wind it past 5,000rpm is where you get the 'Va Va Voom' effect which also leads to increased engine noise, exhaust boom & a noticable drop in MPG, not great on Le' Moto.

Well I know the whole trip from Chesterfield to Preston is only 90 miles with Chesterfield to Stockport being country lanes :D My saxo is about 4000 rpm at 80mph so not too dissimilar to that really. Sounds all good then, just need to make sure I don't crash so I can get my no claims bonus!

I've never understood this reasoning, would you also say this about blue Clio Cups?

Nope because in the mk2 shape the majority of ones I see are black, so like every mk1 bar one or two I've seen round here have been silver, almost every mk2 I've seen has been black :) Don't see many cups around so I don't see that as a common colour.

Hence my thoughts, and this is all just my opinion, silver mk1s and black mk2s are the most common colours. Not saying they are bad at all, they do look nice (almost bought a silver one) just they are all I see :)

Evo's quite right, same goes for the 182, loooooads in the same shade blue as the Cup, which was meant to be a special unique attribute. Cheers Renault.

They only released the mk1 in silver to start with then slowly added more colours, similar to the original V6.
I guess the mk2 172 popularity being black is because most owners love washing there cars!?! :)

My garage had a yellow mk1 in the other day, I reckon they must be rarer than the liquid yellow 182s. Looked quite smart.

Eurgh, saw a yellow ph1 a couple of months back and I really didn't like it. Just didn't look right at all to me. I've no idea why either, as I normally quite like yellow motors.

Yeah this one was lowered slightly and had mk2 rear lights, but it didn't look as bad as I though, for a lellow car anyway.
