The connection between Overclocking CPU and ram

I have never understood what the connection is with overclocking the CPu and the ram, do you have to rasie the other if you raise the other one?

As you raise the frequency of the CPU the FSB will automatically rise.

As long as your memory can cope with the rise, you'll be fine; but you will reach a point where your memory will not be able to cope with the frequency (even with increased voltage) in which case you will need to apply a divider to your RAM.

Hope this helps :)

Or you can raise the CPU frequeny via the "mulipliers" instead of the FSB. Then your memory speed is not involved at all.

Only certain CPU's can do it these days tho.

On AMD A64 processors the memory controller is on the cpu and runs with cpu, so if you increase the HTT on the cpu the speed of the memory increases in proportion.
