The cost of Battlefield 3 (to upgrade)

im spending nothing i just played the beta with these settings

and got 40-60fps

amd x6 1055t (stock)
4gb ram
460GTX @ 715mh stock

im sure some of the large otudoor levels with vehicles will be more demanding but i imagine i can just knock the AA down to 2x and be fine

AFAIK the beta is locked on low settings.

Someone correct me?

lol :P

i wish they would have just built a pc specifically for BF3 lol

BF3 PC 1, Low settings - £500
BF3 PC 2, Med settings - £650
BF3 PC 3, High settings - £850
BF3 PC 4, Ultra settings - £1200

Then i would have simply clicked on my preferred settings and bang! Done....

Hmm i have upgraded although not specifically for bf3, it's best i don't actually think about the cost :p

6990
Corsair AX850
Thermochill pa140.3 rad
d5 pump
ek 6990 gpu block
ek 250 res
ek xtop v2
rad stand
3xGelid 14 uv blue
backplate
fittings
tubing

MIGHT add another 5850 to my system, not sure though because I will still be limited to 1gb vram. AMD really should have released the 7000 series around same time as battlefield, would have made a killing.

Res you playing at? I'm playing at 1920x1080 and even with Xfire disabled 1 card managed 50-60fps inside on metro and 40-50 outside on high with max AA. Both cards together obviously gave me much better frames and ate caspian border no problem. Never got stutter or anything due to lack of vram.

2 x 6950, £430 (I hope they fix xfire for release!) once I've sold the games that came with them and my 5870 prolly cost me ~£300...I was thinking of going SB but I doubt it would make any difference. So it's cost me a lot less than BF2 did, so far.....;)

1) Spending back in January could hardly be attributed to a game coming out some 9-10 months later, so that's £350 knocked off :)
2) £150 for Win7HP? They must have seen you coming, I paid £50 (preorder) but I'm sure it was still only around £70-80 even after that!
3) £180 for a secondhand 400 series GPU seems a bit overpriced, they were only £195 brand new 6(?) months ago

It's the 1st point I'm really struggling with, why would you upgrade specifically for BF3 so long before it came out, especially when it comes to new tech such as SSD which would obviously evolve (and get cheaper) throughout the year?

Not looking to be confrontational about it we've all splashed the cash on system upgrades for games, I remember buying my first 3d card and some extra RAM for Quake2 :)

I'm only playing at 1440x900 resolution mate so I think it might be ok. Reason I game at a low res is to get 75hz refresh rate as opposed to 60hz. That's great to know mate, I will be on the lookout for another 5850 in the MM then, you reckon a 650w PSU would handle 5850 crossfire?

I have spent only the cost of the game. The benefits of keeping up with the upgrades. new GFX card on the horizon and maybe a new monitor. Those aren't specifically for BF3 though. The graphics card will then dictate if a new PSU is required.

If it's a reputable brand - corsair, antec etc. then it should handle Xfire 5850s fine

Around £1700.00 complete new tower from OC, new monitor new mouse and keyboard again from OC, and when they finally get round to sorting it out in my area.. new internet connection.
