The cost of new generation ITX motherboards

I wanted to do an ITX build for my daughters Christmas present but because of the current prices, I opted for mAtx instead. The Mobo was 1/4 the price of ITX, mental.

Honestly the cost of components in general has put me off buying a new pc. Between GPUs, motherboards, ddr5 memory, etc it’s too expensive to justify the purchase.

With a bit of luck see some more affordable mainstream parts in a few months time!

Essentially when manufacturers see that sheep will continue to pay 1k plus for a not even top of the range phone, then of course the rest of the electronics world will follow! It’s utter madness.

ROG STRIX B660-I GAMING WIFI - looks like the only sensible option right now. Not great for OC obviously but otherwise should be decent

That with a NR200p case, pretty sure I've seen people get a 4090 in it (just).

I'm planning to build one with 13600 non-K and a 4070 Ti in the not too distant future...

It’s not so much phones that are the issue here but Nvidia and graphics cards.

Even AMD has upped their pricing because they can.

Motherboard manufacturers are following suit with some stupidly expensive high end boards.

Here is a cheaper itx board that I am thinking of buying for my 13700kf but I cannot find any reviews anywhere

Has anyone on here got one?
I read from multiple sources that this board has the lowest CPU power limit of all Z790 ITX boards @ 150W. The 13700 would be kneecapped as it wouldn't be able to boost as high as it's designed to.

One reason for the costs I think is that AM4 lasted too long. They still need income in the years we don't buy. If you buy a board and it lasts 4 years it needs to cost (roughly) twice what the 2 year (cough Intel) board x2 costs to give the same income as they are selling half as many boards.

Doesn't that kinda defeat the point though? The purpose of having a platform last longer is so you will save money buy not having to buy a new board when you need a new cpu but if the board costs twice as much then it kinda defeats that purpose?

That's how it feels anyway.

For you\us yes but the motherboard manufacturers need to maintain their revenue. If they sold a cheap board at half the frequency they'd soon be out of business.

I guess you're right on that front, they need to recoup some of that cost. Given the choice, i suppose the other thing the end user gets is a trouble free upgrade (for the most part) without having to take the pc apart just to upgrade.

Yes I specifically bought this one for the eDP port to use in my NR200P MAX build. The VRM does lack full heatsinks but I have decent airflow over that area so no issues so far.

The only thing to be aware of is that DDR5 can be finicky and this board actually doesn't support 6000 with two RAM sticks. Not made clear enough unless you read the manual.

I have now bought some Corsair Vengeance 5600 RAM that runs at it's stated speed by just selecting the XMP profile. 32GB 2 x 16 CMH32GX5M2B5600C36K. The previous 6000 kit was unstable at anything above 5400.

Pay more and get less. I thought ITX was gaining in popularity and was hopeful prices would align with matx and atx. Alas
This is my opinion. ITX was meant for stripped down systems that fit in a mini format. So now you are paying to add that functionality back at low volumes.

I've been building a few mini-ITX systems for friends that just want to game at a reasonable level and the A520/620 or Intel H610 based boards are great for this. My only gripe is the missing USB-C motherboard header but you can adapt USB 2/3 headers to at least make a case port functional.

I just paid £150 for a B760 which feels mad, but I already had my NR200P and the price of switching to a new (mATX) case was more than just buying an ITX board.

I think in future I’ll just go mATX. The Asus AP201 is mATX and not much bigger than the NR200.

That's cheap! I paid close to £400 for a Z690  , consider yourself lucky lol.

i paid 60 for my b450 ITX a few years ago looking at b650 boards it looks around £300 even for second hand nuts

I did the same. Not even considering AM5, a 5800x3d and 32gb of the fastest RAM will see me through the next Gen’ don’t need any more for 4k gaming - it’s all GPU for a long while
