The CPU is overheating... and it's driving me insane.

would it even run at 105? I thought it would have turned itself off long before then? I'd be very very careful taking your IHS off.

Well I turned on the overheat protection thingy and it shut off while booting XP!

My dad has an identical one in his old VIA board which is fine, he's moving to an Opteron so I'll have another to test first.

SHE IS ALIVE!!!111oneoneone

After my father moved to an Opteron he gave me his old CPU, which was identical to the one I had.

My computer is now ORTHOSing at 100% at these temps:
core 0 = 57
core 1 = 60
(taken with coretemp)

Also I have it at 2.3GHz from stock 2.2GHz
So, the old CPU was the culprit. Now to find out exaclt ywhat was wrong with it, suggestions?

THanks for all the help too. :D

Temp sensors are faulty would be my guess. Unless it is that hot, in which case its a faulty cpu full stop. Unless the mobo was chucking too much volts at the cpu.

you could have a go at taking the IHS off seeing as its not worth that much anymore anyway.. you might have somehow lost contact between the core and the IHS???

you should be able to push that to 2,5ghz by using 228mhz as fsb leave htt set at 5x
also make sure you set mem timmings, you should be able to leave mem set at 200 basically 1:1 ratio. will depend on what memory you run
i can have mines run at 250mhz if i take out the 2x 512 dimms and just have 2 gig but i like the 3 gig and haveing it run at 215
you will need to bump the cpu volts by .60mv works ok on mine's
