Nice, Gareth Edwards.

Seems to have snuck up out of nowhere, was originally called True Love.

Like the look of this, getting The Matrix Second Renaissance vibes from the trailer.

Got tickets for this tonight.
Been working all day since 6am so I hope this keeps me awake.
Seen nothing but good news and a work colleague said it was great too. She's got good taste in films ....
So let's see!

I saw this on Thursday, it's pretty good....reminds me of Elysium and District 9 in places, great locations used and amazing CGI, especially if you consider their budget...$80mil, and how much a Marvel film cost. I also read up on the making of it, they shot the whole thing with Sony FX3, a £3,000 prosumer camera that you can get on the highstreet.

There are some plot holes but overall it is engaging, and got my attention for the whole film.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Knew it was going to be good but was still surprised how immersive it was. Really drew you into the universe and very compelling. Solid acting particularly from the little lass. Surprised it only used £80 mill. Puts a lot of higher budget movies to shame.

Apparently they way they did it were things like

1 - Using FX3
2 - This allow them to shoot with smaller teams, on location. They filmed it like a gorilla filming approach. Like the opening beach scene, they just did it without closing down the beach, apparently in the background you can see lit up huts where tourists are drinking. A lot of real world location were used, even used a particle accelerator in Thailand as the the set for the underground bunker.
3 - They did the whole thing without CGI, shot it, edited it and have it all locked in before passing the film to Special Effects where they did the CGI, so there were no (or very little) or wasted effort and money spent on CGI that weren't used. And the SFX people can use all their energy on the final edit as they started with the final edit.

I went to see this film yesterday. In short, went in blind and came out pleased. My two friends and I, all really enjoyed the film.

I liked the story. It has a serious tone with a few jokes which worked well with the story. The pacing of the story was great. I didn't feel like any section dragged on for too long. The interaction between Joshua and Alphie was good and I think the actor for Alphie did a surprisingly good job.

The film did a good job of showing how Joshua's perception and attitude towards AI changes the more time he spends interacting with Alphie.

Admittedly it could have delved deeper into the relationship between AI and humans. Not necessarily a bad thing just setting realistic expectations.

I don't think there was any scene that felt like a waste of time, everything added to the story or to the world building.

In terms of the actions scenes, they were good. Though some questionable decisions were being made by the characters at times. They did a good job of conveying the tension.

The scene were the simulant is locked on by the massive tank, runs for cover but realises there are kids hiding and backs away was a good piece of story telling in amongst the action. Kudos to them

Visuals were good. The design of the vehicles and cityscape was excellent. I believe they added film grain to the movie and softened it up a little. It gives it a distinct look that I think worked well for the story they were telling. Don't worry the grain isn't distracting, you probably won't notice it. The CGI is very good, I'm surprised by Raymond posts about an $80 million budget. There was some low res smoke simulations (i think it was for smaller explosions) at times but I most people won't notice this.

I would recommend watching this film. I think most people will walk away pleased.
