The Darkness

Just got it today myself...really like it, my sort of game. So far!

Best bit? I thought the part in the girl's flat when you watch the TV was fantastically done..never seen anything like that before. The cuddling up and kiss was just very well done for a game..very original i thought.

has anyone had any stability issues?

SPOILER

I've got to the point where you have to take out teams of criminals arround the city, i did the first one ok but as soon as i get to the second one the game freezes after i kill them all, i hope a patch is on its way. :(

finished it last night..took me about 3 nights play and a big session on sunday afternoon

loved it personally....great atmosphere for a game, and the voice acting was excellent (even if the lip synching was great)

really liked the gunplay..just seems a well designed game, with little things being well thought out
very enjoyable and will be restarting it again tonight!

That never happened to me, i think a new disc is needed not a patch

I thought the game got off to a great start, the mood, graphics, story felt very immersive and impressive...then 2 things happened

The darkness powers - completely hated them all, in some cases they made the game far too easy (black hole wind thing), and others really frustrating (trying to control the camera when in sneak mode)

the world war 1 level - jesus h, this was tedium of the highest order, really wanted to see past this level to get back on track, so i stuck with it

by which time the game had lost its sparkle, went on to finish it, and i'd say from my initial view of it being a 9/10 top game, that by the time it was finished i agree with the magazine EDGE, which gave it a 7, spot on i'd say.

Good, but could have been so much better

Thanks :D

But tbh the only thing positive about this game is the cut scenes.

Ah so not to do with the fact it EASILY has the best use of lighting in any game, or the top notch voice work? What about the fact it's a FPS with an actual story? Or that the powers are actually as much a part of the game as the weapons? What about the frankly superb soundtrack? Excellently design environments that are actually not only appropriate, but very believable?

No positives...

Its taking me an age, I have only just got to the butcher in chap 1. Granted I'm running about collecting but I still keep dieing in stupid places :D

Got more used to the controls tonight. Not in a hurry as there isnt much else I want to play, so I can enjoy this making sure I do all the side missions.

I thought going back in time was a great part in the game, was quite spooky at times too. It's a very well made game, completely original too which is unusual from a FPS..

The lame war levels reminded me of those stupid trippy levels from Max Payne. I found that they added absolutely nothing to my gaming experience, nor did the second trip where you learn about the darkness.

I enjoyed the WW1 sections, I thought it was a brilliant take on a modern influenced WW1 scenario. They were also the most important sections story wise in relation to the Darkness. I'm completely with Andy on that :).

Order this today for 29 pounds in dev :) Can't wait shame i got to do 2 12 hours shifts before i get a good crack at it

Shame the gameplay and mechanics of the game are ****

Nothing we haven't seen plenty of times before. Another mediocre fps with a half decent story, great...

And what's up with the guy, are his shoe laces tied together through out the game?

Snails move faster.
