Found this for £18 first hand on the PS3, i know it's meant to be quite good however i've also heard that the PS3 version is inferior to the 360s. I don't own an xbox so this is the only way i'll get to play it, but is it so bad on the PS3 it isn't worth playing, or is it simply if you have a choice, go for the 360 version?

If you have a choice definitely get the 360 version, I didn't have a choice when I played it, I completed it and loved every minute of it on PS3, the inferior graphics did not spoil the game, definitely in the top 5 games I played last year.

Buy it without a doubt.

To date no ports/conversion have been unplayable. Back when the first batch of ps3 ports came out (from 360). 360 fans liked to make a really big issue for the differences between the versions. (Strangely they dismiss these differences when a ps3 version is better?).

Unless you are sitting on a ps3 with the 360 version running side by side, next to you, I cannot think how it can affect your enjoyment. (Unless each time you see a low res texture you curse to yourself "I bet its better on the 360 I don;t have :) )

p.s. I have not played the Darkness on both consoles, but nor has anyone here, they just go of what they read in online forums and games websites, this is just generic advice.

A-ha, I have. The games look identical apart from the terrible aliaising in the PS3 version. The quality of the video on the TV screens is better on the PS3 as less compression is used but that's a very minor point. If you've got a 360, I'd get the 360 version.

I stand corrected :p

Ive played on both and while the 360 version is obviously better the PS3 version is far from unplayable! Its mainly 360 fanboys that put the PS version down as I didnt notice all this so called extreme tearing and texture loss.

Can't really turn down even an average game for £18 new, seeing people refer to it as one of the best games of last year has pushed me into buying it.

Now i wonder if i'll find time to play it between GT5:P and coursework :/

cheers for the info

You forgot the lousy framerate issues.

Yeah, identical apart from a total lack of aliasing and drastic framerate drops. It's not exactly minor. I did an experiment for OcUK once - rented the PS3 version and compared to 360 version. The graveyard sequence at the start for example dips to 10fps on the PS3 version, while the 360 version is just fine. The kitchen shootout with the helicopter nearby is borderline unplayable on the PS3 version.

Sell the PS3 version mate, you're only gonna get frustrated at what would have been one of the best releases of last year.

The game is in no way average, it's one of the best I've played on the PS3.
£18 is an absolute steal.

Hell, I noticed the famre-rate dropping plenty on the 360, but it didn't stop me enjoying the game. For some reason fram rate drops on console don't bother me as much as on pc...

Just get the game and enjoy :D

Admittedly I only played it up to meeting the girlfriend, but I don't understand the love for this game, I really didn't enjoy it as yet. Does it get much better or is it just not for me? (I've got it on rental so its no biggy)

When you get new darkness levels its great, It does get better but only if you enjoy it.

I started this on the PS3, then when everyone was harping on about the 360 version being better, I took it back and swapped it. Got to say that I didn't really notice a lot of difference apart from alliasing and prefering the 360 controller (unlike PES that I found vastly superior on 360). However, being in a position where you can have either then it'd be silly not to get the best version (no matter how small the differences).

I spent most of the game using the darkness powers but I did get annoyed at how feeble the little darklings were. I think I used the creeping thing and the vortex the most. I remember one section, I managed to keep the creeping thing going for ages by gobbling up hearts. That was really fun!

I thought this game was crap tbh.

Horrible controls, no real idea of where to go....BUT my friend enjoyed every second of it.
