The Day Of The Triffids to return to BBC next year

THe '81 series is available on MSN video:

I dig the intro/credits score. Reminds me of György Sándor Ligeti's work for Stanley Kubrick's 2001.

Nice find... I think it might also be on YouTube too... Possibly even better quality?

Listened to the 1960s radio play recently... Not bad... The 1981 TV series is still the best overall adaptation in my mind adding up all the pros and cons.

Just going back through the book now - Not read it in over 20yrs! :)

I'll be watching a review copy of this on Blu-ray today. What I saw on television looked pretty good, in my view.

As an aside, we're also giving away two copies of it on Blu-ray over at Dread Central. If you want to enter, click Features, then Contests, and it's a couple down the page. Mailto link is at the bottom of the description!

Having since Christmas:-
a) Watch the 1980s adaptaption (again)
b) Listened to the 1950s radio play
c) And read the book (again)

...I have to say (IMHO) the recent remake was pretty average at best. In short, there is no way writing of that quality deserves praise. Just too much daft illogical nonsense that could easily have been fixed with better/more intelligent writing. (a), (b) & (c) above are far superior experiences (IMHO)...

I went to reread the book and discovered I'd thrown my copy away.

The book covers a couple of the darker and more interesting avenues.

The blindness - It questions if the 'comets' were actually to blame' or not. I think this might have been covered in the 81 TV series?

The Triffids - It questions the speed at which they spread. ie: They seemed to be a menace the following day!

One avenue it really didn't explorer was obviously the majority of sighted survivors would have been children. The younger a child, the more likely to have retained its sight... The number of sighted young children (eg: 2-4yrs old), too young to manage to feed themselves must have been horrible. And then the hospitals must have been full of sighted young infants just slowly starving to death

If anyone missed this or wants to watch it again. It's on movies 24 tonight.

Edit oh it's only second part, however first part repeated tomorrow at 23:00

Watch the 1985 version if you have the chance... It's dated, but at least that's a valid excuse for its failings...
