The day when we no longer have to give '56k' warnings...

Am I the only one who finds that a disgrace in this day of age for a country like the UK ?

ADSL only goes a few KM. If you have no telephone exchange within that distance then it is very expensive to provide, where as if it is just poor cable it can be fixed.

But very rural areas just don't have a telephone exchnage within range usually.

All exchanges are owned by BT, no one else seems to build them despite the supposed de monopolisation of the market.

OFCOM have no clue.

Well broadband seems to be getting worse n worse. I hope BT will hurry up and lay the fibre already.

The cable connection at home is so dire that I've just switched over to using my mobile :(

How come countries like Canada have a higher broadband penetration than the UK then? Far smaller population density than the UK...
OR Scandinavian countries like Norway, Sweden and Finland ?

Yet countries like Belgium which would have it easier to link up everyone with broadband have a smaller penetration...
imo it's all the peoples own fault, they aren't trying hard enough to get rid of that obsolete crap...

And we we had websites which actually contained information instead of gigabytes of flash :mad::mad:
And images hosted on websites loaded about the same speed as they do when hosted on the likes of imageshack, photobucket etc anyway :D

What are they, throttled or something?

It isn't really the peoples fault either, it simply isn't cost effective so unless people who live in these rural areas want to pay 10x as much it isn't happening unless the company takes the hit or it is subsidised by the government.

ofcom don't have the balls to make the legislation for either, current rules says everyone must have "broadband" which = 128k ISDN and thus works on any rubbish line.

Thats what I pay my taxes for.

10x as much is definitely cost effective...
5 euros x10 = 50 euros, what we payed for 512k adsl about 6 years ago.

hmmm edit: atrm can't find any offers for 5 euros, I can find 1.5mb unlimited for 9.95 though... So x10 would be 99 euros a month. Still cheap enough to get broadband over 56k trash imo.

Is it just me or does it annoy you that we still have to give out 56k warnings in 2009!

If anything it should be them apologizing for not having conventional broadband!

If i make a post with pictures and people start complaining about the size of them, I get angry!!

Upgrade your internet connection then you cheap skate! IMO the days of giving 56k warnings should be over

Just a rant :D

Not everyone has access to Broadband.

It's not really a real '56k' warning these days.. more like 'this thread will take a nice bite out of your bandwidth allowance' warning.

That still doesn't explain the purpose of a '56k warning'. My 56k modem, retired only in 2005, never exploded or caught fire as a result of entering a thread with lots of pictures.

Mine jumped up and kicked me in the face. That's why I switched to Broadband. :p

well - there is a minority of people that I think broadband cant reach (Im sure in mid wales there is a few places) and are still on 56k lines, some places have no intention on being upgraded because they are too rural and the people are too simple..... like derby
