The Days Before COD Was Naff

POW Camp, run around on the rooves shooting people who didn't know you could do that.

I quite liked the sprint, it added a little bit of extra gameplay for me.

Carentan, Foy, Arnhem (which nobody played), Rhine Valley, Brecourt, POW Camp, Pavlov, Chateau, Battleship (which everyone hated), Stalingrad (tiny map). Which ones am I missing?

I can't help much with UO maps (you've named all the ones I knew), but I do remember one on a Sicilian island and another in a small town with a market place in the middle of it (was a smallish map, but included tanks :S).

I remember being able to get into a hidden room on Stalingrad using the ladder trick. If you jumped as you were exiting a ladder, it propelled you forward. You would climb the ladder from the side and propell yourself towards a window. If you did it right, you would get inside and the walls had no textures, so you could see everything outside without exposing yourself. You couldn't shoot through it though. And it often got you booted from the server if they realised you were in there, which is fair enough!

I loved all the maps where you could use 125fps (the magic number, 333 also worked!) and strafe jump to climb around the maps. Remember the main ones being on Dawnville and Neuville.

indeed cod4, after that is when it went all down hill.

Why does everyone have this rose tinted view of cod4? If anything it was the worst offender for introducing crap like killstreaks totally owning maps as they were stackable, ever since they appeared in cod4 its been a plague. Im pretty sure it was also the game that introduced the utterly lame 1 hit melee kill regardless of where the knife actually hit the enemy, thats another series stalwart that needs a round to the head.

UO may have had an artillery killstreak but it was nothing compared to the crap that cod 4 brought with it.

cod 4 single player was good, although i never got into the multiplayer (achievements, perks, killstreaks etc...). i prefer older versions of the game for multi.

but Rainbow Six (ones developped by Red Storm, not the atrocity Ubisoft turned it into) will always be the king of fps in my book

i used to play FPS mostly, now I very rarely do. it's not that i have outgrown them it's just that fps have gone downhill since 2006 or around that time, and nowdays they are a sad joke imo.

Basically the days before crappy sodding levelling systems were introduced.

I still play COD:UO today as as there is still a surprising amount of people playing it.

This and UT99 are probably the greatest online FPS games released.

I must have pumped thousands of hours into UO, it was fantastic. I gave it away a couple of years ago and can't remember who I gave it to, and it's still £20 on steam, which is shocking.

4 is still the best, and I know because I have them all on Steam apart from Modern Warfail 2 and Crap Ops.

Yeeeaaahhhh! :D

I miss the old shooters. I just can't game anymore without thinking this is meh.......

Please some body just make an fps without all the BS.
