The Degree Completion Thread!

4 more exams to go untill the very end

BA (hons) Economics at Manchester University. I would like to say there was any good times on this course, BUT if i did i would be lying :D Anyways i stuck it out like a true online hero and should come out with something decent.

When finished, just going to relax untill sept' when i start my job as a chartered accountant.

I dont finish until the 7th of June!! It sucks being in the library all day, and I have had finals every year for the past 3 years to boot! Am going to be getting (assuming I pass) an MMath in funnily enough Mathematics, from Oxford... It has been a long haul, but I think it has been worth every ounce of energy!

I'm just looking forward to the summer and taking a few months to chill before I start working in the real world in October!

Handed in my coursework on 24th April, had my exam on May 9th. Completes four years* at Goldsmiths College, London studying for a degree in History.

*A three year course, but I retook my second year.

I finished today! BSc (Hons) Web Design & Development. Had my last presentation and honours showcase today. It feels bloomin weird.

On the flip side, I got quite a few job offers at the showcase, including a few from the Uni which seem surprisingly well paid.

Not making any decisions right now though. Gonna sleep for a week solid. :D

I finish my BA in maths at Cambridge on the 6th. Looking back do you think it was worth it doing the MMath? I was considering staying on to do Part III here, but got offered a job and thought, since I didn't want to go into research, there was no point in doing it. Interestingly enough, I've heard gossip that Part III may become an MMath in the near future.

Surely it will take years to acheive chartered status so you are not starting a job as a chartered accountant? Have you found a secret backdoor? If so please share as I'd be very interested!

I would say that for me personally, mathematically it has been worth doing the 4th year.. I don't plan on going into research either, but I found that having done relatively little work for 3 years, that at the end of the third year I couldn't actually tell anyone really what I had been studying! This year I have cut out all the extra curricular stuff and have concentrated on the maths, and as a result I have found that I have a) enjoyed the course a lot more and b) think I have actually picked up an understanding of maths that won't leave me as soon as I walk out of the last exam!

Having said all of this, it has only really been useful doing this third year from a completely introspective point of view, I don't think I have added anything to my career potential. However I already had a job lined up from the middle of the third year that I was able to defer, so it didn't really matter anyway!

Where are you starting work next year? If you feel satisfied with what you have learnt from the last three years, then I wouldn't lose any sleep about missing out...

With regards to the MMath thing, that would make sense... Although I don't really think it makes any difference what letters you put after your name, more seeing the course and where you have done it that matters in my opinion!

Sorry let me rephrase. I start my job as a TRAINEE chartered accountant.

I don't think I enjoy maths enough to justify doing another year of it, without it affecting my career prospects. I really wish I did enjoy it, but I'm starting to get that "what's the point?" feeling which most people associate with maths. Sounds like it was the right move for you though, so congratulations. It sounds like a very challenging course.

I'll be starting with Lazard (smallish IB mostly focused on M&A) in August. I won't be doing anything directly mathematical, but I don't really think I want to. It'll make a nice change. Where are you working?

Yup, most people I know who do maths are the same. I am kind of in that group as well!

I know Lazard. Are you looking forward to starting? I also will be doing something completely unmathematical! Starting at Mckinsey (Management Consultancy) in October.

Just finished a Bsc Honours in Computing & Networking (Computer Science specialist Award) and that great feeling of the stress lifting is starting to kick in.

Results in 3 weeks, wish me luck :D

Everyone who says "I'm doing a Bxx Honours in.." - you know, you only get the Honours *if* you get a third-class or above? You're not doing an Honours, you're hoping to get one ;)

D3 (40%) or better at my uni so yeah a 3rd. Oh and they run two courses, a BSC CS + Honours and one without, basically project or additional module.

Just had my last exam today - I have to say that I am happy its all over with now! All I need to do is await the grade!

Now, sitting around in my underwear is an appealing thought after the last horrible six months of dissertation, assignments and general overload of finance!
