OEM only has the sellers 12 month warranty. Retail has the full 3 years manufacturers warranty.

Thank you that makes the extra 10-15 pounds worth while tbh for the peace of mind..

Sometimes an OEM product will come in a brown box and/or without a manual and drivers :) .

An OEM cpu will come in just a little plastic case or a tiny cardboard box, depending on where it came from.

I was going to buy an Oem conroe cpu from Oc but I have decided to get the retail E6400 instead peace of mind, but no doubt I will have upgraded the cpu again befor warrenty runs out lol, These things do come off the production line very quick lol.... :p

Does anyone know if OEM CPUs are garunteed against bent pins? I've always bought OEM CPUs (must have bought 3 or 4 now for various machines) and never had a bent pin, but its always been a fear.

oem is a lot cheaper but as people have said more limited warranty and lack of proper shiny boxes with extras inside.

x800gto oem came in a brown box works perfect had to download drivers as no cd and no cables.

oem athlon 64 3700+ came in a nice wee black box and was a lot cheaper than the retail even with the heat sink i bought seperatly :) my previous retail sempron processor didnt have a nice wee black box with it to reuse for the older processor so sometimes oem is better than retail :)

both oem products ive ordered from ocuk have worked flawlessly and despite been oem there wasnt a single bit of dust on either component :D

Bent pins - either in oem or retail form should be sent straight back to where you bought it.

OEM is CPU(product) only - no fancy packaging, no instructions, no manufacturer warranty or HSF.

The current Intel Socket (LG775) cpu's don't have pins. The motherboard has the pins. One less thing to worry about.
