So its that time of year and i expect many of you are stuck inside doing your dissertations like me!

Just thought id make a little support group for all of us to bang our heads on the proverbial wall.

It could be worse you could be me with 15,000 words left to write. Oh and a programming project too.

Hows everyones going? Wish you were dead yet?

Finished mine - Binded and ready for submission. It was a 10k words project on MRSA. (mrsa: a modern epidemic unfolding) I started early so i could have plenty of time to revise for exams. Looks like am on track so far. :)

One word...

No wait i cant say that on here.

I am not doing one (I am doing GCSEs :p). However I would like to know how long the average dissertation is. (My reason is that I have had to do a massively long project in Business Studies and my friend and I always joke that we should hand it in as a dissertation :p).

Nice thread.

I've written 3,200 words on the history of video game music so far, but my dissertation is specifically about First Person Shooter soundtracks and the genres used for them. I've recorded an artefact as well to demonstrate styles within one track.

Edit:

Angus, mine is meant to be at least 7000 words to accompany my artefact. A study on its own is meant to be around 12,000 though.

I've written 9,200 words so far, although im worried as the minimum for mine is 10,000 and maximum is generally 10% on top of this apparently, and i havent even written my evaluation or conclusion yet
Let alone other bits and pieces!

Hmmm, i cant believe i'm actually gonna write too much for something, its usually the opposite, ah well, there's a first for everything :D

10k is average I think.

I'm going to be starting mine in September, doing background reading over summer and it's due in at the end of February; no time to waste really! :p

They can be anywhere between 5000 words (which is a complete joke and I don't understand why some universities even call these dissertations) up to about 15,000. The average is probably around the 10,000-12,000 mark as maniac said.

Wow, that makes my Business Studies work pretty long then. (Although I understand that dissertations are at a completely different level of complexity). :p

13,500 words for me. Luckily though I haven't got to go through the horredous waiting process, I finished my degree in '95. :)

Nearly lost it all too, my old Amstrad 1640 went **** up, but luckily the HDD didn't corrupt. Gave me close to a heart attack though.

My ex's best friend ended up doing a 36,000(?!?!?!) word dissertation, even though it was only required to be 10,000

Strange chap.

 That must be what, 55 pages?! No professor of mine would even touch 55 pages.

Written bout 2000 so far, got 8000 to go, finding it rather difficult since the subject I'm doing doesn't exactly exist yet. :(
