Over the year I just gathered books and materials, made a few notes and what not, didnt really do anything properly.

The only reason it went so well is that I'm really into the subject and it just kinda flowed out of me into my dissertation.

I would have started it sooner but I spent my final year a little to high and was off my face most days. Who'd of though I'd manage to get a job and straigten myself out since august!

lol. good on ya. I can't work like that. what did you get for the dissertation and for ** degree?

Got a first for my dissertation, which pulled my degree upto a 2:1.

Pretty amazing really, I only got 40% on 2 of the core modules which were taken into my degree calculation, I was in therapy when those two went in but uni wouldn't grant extensions and gave me the minimum mark to pass! I did use my dyslexia/add extension on a module at the start of the year so i cheated a little!

Turned out alright though, most guys I know who got firsts still havent got good jobs - too nerdy!

I did a BSc in Computer Networks for Business, I'm a technical consultant now working for a Global IT Distributor. I specialise in HP OpenView Products and Microsoft Operation Manager, I've also attented the HP StorageWorks Academy and have my CCNA which was included in my degree as well as being in ITILs practitioner.

I've also got a CompTIA A+ in Computer Systems engineering before I went uni (Night Class).

I got the job purely by chance after getting on the HP OpenView academy (First time it ran in the UK) which took place at my uni.
 
Im currently just wrapping up my first draft of my dissertation as of now! :)

What im curious about is, do i need to include BOTH an Abstract and an Introduction?

I understand that a Abstract is a summary of what is contained within, where as an introduction is a little bit of background information and what your going to be talking about and discussing. I take it im correct?

I've done an introduction to each section of my literature review as well as one for my evaluation, do you think that having an abstract is necessary?

Any help'd be great thanks! :)

Hey. For mine I had to write a synopsis (abstract) of 500 words, that was not included in the overall word count and was to be separate from the main text introduction. I'd clarify with your tutor/dissertation guidance notes but it's most likely quite vital that you do one, and in the correct format :).
 
Year end paper.

Over 30 sources so far.

Having to provide a copy of each and every source highlighting various sections used (seems they don't trust us anymore).

Including expanded notes page as well as works cited.

New journalism style. Fictionalised documentary with historical tangent.



I am so fed up of looking at this thing it's untrue.

Somebody HELP ME GET OUT OF HERE.

The trick is starting right from the off, and keep adding to it as you go along. It's surprising how it builds up and the amount of times I've been looking back at it to remember certain methods! :D

What are you writing it on? Any chance I could have a look?

Here's mine, which I did some time last year, if you're interested. Nowhere near as long as yours though, and I now cringe when I look back at it. ;)
 
I need about 40 pages and so far I have about 5 (thats included the front page, lol), got another week before the deadline :(
 
Can anyone recommend some online print service where you can have sterling copies of your dissertation printed out for the textual submission? (i.e. best quality paper, ink etc.)

Did mine in 48 hours and got one of the best resluts on my course,

it is all about planning though, once youve done the prep the write ups a doddle!

Similar when I did mine. I didn't waste time doing any research or prep beforehand though. It wasn't strictly a dissertation, it was my final year design project. But it still had the 10k word limit on the write up. I started on the Monday evening at 7pm and handed it in for the 9am Friday deadline. Got a 1st ;)
 
Anyone got any useful tips for the research collection stage?

I'm doing lots of journal hunting over summer, I'm assuming the best thing is perhaps, print off, read through and make notes, etc.

Mine? It's not due to next year, but I did a research proposal the other week. It's 10k long, the background reading is going to be work by certain authors and in general about a small field to familarise myself with it.

I'm going to be doing perceptions of climate change if anyone's interested :p

It seems to be heavily revolved around a psychology/human geography area, hence the need to familiarise myself. I'm thinking perhaps having a highlighter and a page to summarise any important points on the front would be the best idea.
