The down sides of buying online

You cant go anywhere without seeing 50 odd pret a manger shops in the same area there is literally one every 10 meters in central London. Lots of pound shops and tonnes of over priced food places. I wish I could have a portal into the United States just to go shopping. When I was over there the last time I couldn't get enough.

Meh... I work from home so delivery time doesn't matter as much, although I do appreciate an estimated time as long as it doesn't keep shifting like with Amazon... the other delivery companies are all comically consistent with their time of deliveries so I can usually guestimate when they'll turn up based on the courier lol.

I would shop in a physical shop more often but apart from the usual food and pound shops there is literally 1 shop which is worth going into in my local town and I don't need to go in there that often... clothing is pointless because I normally need to order online anyway due to not having my size in store.

All the other 'good stuff' got closed down due to 'covid restructuring' meaning I now need to travel 1 hour on average for a lot of things with no guarantee they'll even be there so online is so much easier.

Mind you we do have an excessive number of hair dressers/barbers in town now, they've literally got 2 full streets (out of about 10)....yeah I have no idea why we need so many either.

Online shopping is a pain when you're looking for something like an office chair where 'fit' is important and trying before you buy helps... but then I don't even have much choice where I live in this respect.

When they send you a return label to return faulty items and expect you to print it out. I don't have a printer, none of my family or friends have a printer, the local library doesn't have a printer and the closest place that can be used means a £5 bus ticket and then the cost of the actual print job.

And why don't you have a printer? It's not like a laser printer that would last you a decade is going to cost much.

A lot of places have options for click and collect / lockers / store pickup etc now.
Also imagine if you couldn't buy online, instead of wasting hours waiting for a delivery, how many hours would you waste travelling between shops and/or searching for a particular item? Not to mention that time spent at home isn't really 'wasted', you can make use of the time spent waiting to do chores, reading, watching TV or whatever.

I got burnt out on buying printers they always break in some way made from cheap flimsy plastic so not really worth it for the sake of a few print outs here and there.

That still happened with lots of time before shopping online was a thing.

I'm currently going through a problem with DPD.

They claimed they tried to delivery the parcel at 8:43am on the 10th. They didn't as I had no notification for delivery, and looking at my CCTV camera nobody came to the door or stopped outside on the road.

They then claimed it would be delivered the next day, the 11th. That came and went, and now they have moved it to the 14th claiming there is a problem in my area, which is another lie as I've had another DPD delivery from the same depot with no problems.

If they don't delivery something on the 14th, which is there next promised day, I'm going to complain.

This normally happens when they can't find your address, attempting to deliver but to the wrong address. You may need to add some extra details of your location on there website delivery info. I don't know if you can do that with DPD. I had to do that with Hermes when they was attempting to deliver a parcel but to the wrong address.

I bought a T-Shirt online and paid 20 pounds including postage. I know 20 quid may seem like a lot for a T-Shirt I wanted it so I bought it and I thought for that price I was going to get some kinda service... It was dispatched on the 7th and estimated delivery said 22nd I thought that is a bit of a long wait so I went to check the tracking which is a Dpost tracking number and I get "invalid tracking number" or Parcel not found" The company are UK sellers so it should have arrived by now but I will never know where it is because the tracking number doesn't work. I contacted the seller about it and all I get is automatic message to say they will contact me within 48 hours. 48 hours passes and still no reply so I message again and get the same automatic reply.

I decided to find out more about this seller/business and they have a bad reputation for delivering zero customer service and not sending out orders. They don't have a single positive review.

Do you see where you went wrong?

If I go to the DPD tracking website and type the tracking ID code in and then click the option to change delivery my correct address comes up.

It's a bit of a weird situation. I guess I'm going to have to deal with the situation if the item isn't delivered on the 14th. But one part of me thinks why am I doing the chasing up, I'm not the one who engaged them, the seller did.

Yep buying from that seller.

I don't know what you mean by "where I went wrong" I bought a T-shirt in good faith, never received it and was given invalid tracking info with no response from the seller?

Exactly... somehow its the buyers fault when its the sellers responsibly to ensure the buyer gets there item. The problem today is people are lazy and don;t want to take responsibility but they are happy to take your money.

This is what you do before parting with your money:
But how would anybody know before hand?

You see something you like on ebay and buy it with the expectation of receiving it. Anyway I will be covered either by ebay or paypal. It just means I have to wait a while before getting my money back.

They are a company trading on ebay. The company have bad google reviews and bad trust pilot reviews.

You do your research before pressing the buy it now button.

If it's a new company you should always check reviews, think of it as 'trying your clothes on in a store'. Also just don't trust ebay stores blindly, they're some of the worst for failing to deliver in my experience, even more so if they're the 'fake uk companies' which are really based in china/hong kong etc.

You also might be able to get your money back from your bank due to it not being supplied, although personally I try to use paypal/amazon pay for first time use sites because they're usually slightly better to get a refund from.

Not sure if serious - it’s easy to find out beforehand by searching for the seller on Google / Trustpilot before hitting the ‘buy’ button :p

The seller’s company name is prominently displayed before you buy the item.
