**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Kax'kang is pretty hardcore, but nowhere near as dangerous as Kang'gak the Lich was in BG2. Took me days to find a tactic to take him down.

Yeah, he was proper, proper hard. I remember when i finally took him down after days by some ludicrously lucky strategy that shouldnt have worked, looked up how other people were doing it, then found out he wasn't even necessary.

I almost cried.

Crowd Control is just terminology that refers to a skill or set of skills that allow you to "control" a battlefield, or enemies on it.

Using certain skills or spells, you can deny enemies the ability to act or do damage. Some examples would be:

Crushing Prison (spell): Will root an enemy to the spot and render him unable to act or move whilst taking some pretty heavy damage. This effectively "removes" him from the fight for the duration of the spell.

Force Field (Spell): Will encase a friendly player and make them immune to any damage, but also prevent them from moving or attacking/casting spells (they basically become frozen). Again, removing them from the fight for the duration. Happily, you can also cast it upon enemies. You wont be able to do any damage to that enemy, but you remove him from the fight so he cant do any damage to you (until the spell runs out)

Petrify (spell): Turns an enemy to stone, thus removing them from the fight for the duration of the spell (as they cannot act).

You can also chain these spells if you wanted. For example, you could keep a boss out of a fight until all his lackeys are dead by casting Petrify, then when it runs out, crushing prison, then when that runs out, force field. That would basically give you 2 minutes of boss free action. Remember, they CAN resist spells so you can't always rely on it to work perfectly :)

There are also shorter versions of Crowd Control, for example a rogues Stun skills. Dirty Fighting is a good way to briefly disable an enemy (especially while it's casting a damned fireball!) allowing you to position yourself behind it. Riposte is another good one. I also put Glyphs of Paralysis in both my weapons.

So yes. Basically, any spell or skill that allows you to control (ie: prevent or delay) the movements and actions of an enemy could be referred to as Crowd Control, as effectively you are dictating what you will allow to happen.

Ta. This will help. My mate has been telling me to primarily control from my mage and i'm attempting to. I'm considering starting afresh and choosing a different route than RedCliffe at first. Are there any particular places I can go to just battle loads of monsters to train my party and practice fighting? I really can't continue on easy as it's no challenge and normal is just too hard.

Also, any pointers on what skill paths to take? I know i'm kinda cheating by asking but until I can nail down what i'm really doing i'm gonna need the help.

Well Redcliffe is the first place i went to from the main storyline, and they say that either that or Mage Circle should be first, so I guess you're on the right tracks.

Skills well, it's what you want to do.

My talents as a rogue I took Dirty Fighting, Combat Movement and Coup de Grace, before sinking the rest into the Deft Hands tree. If you're more concerned about your combat than stealing peoples stuff then i'd suggest taking the Dirty Fighting tree and Below the Belt tree.

For skills I maxed out Combat Training, Poison Making and Coercion (although that's one to skip if you want to concentrate on combat for now).

I spent 90% of my points in Dexterity and Cunning, with the rest in strength (enough to wield good gear) and Willpower. I also took specialisations in Duelist and Assassin. I haven't spent many talents in those yet.

For Alistair, maxe out his Sword and Shield skills, and his Warrior skills (threaten et al), and then his templar skills if you want to add some finesse.

Morrigan well... it's up to you. There's so much choice with mages often I end up just randomly selecting useful skills rather than attempting to max out trees. If you want healer, go healy. If you want huge damage, go damagey.

Sten (if you'e keeping him) max out his 2 handed weapons skills and Berserker skills. Also get his regular Warrior skills up in Branch 2, using Disengage to allow him to not be a clumsy tank.

This is all just personal preference on what i'd do if i knew at the start what i do now. Others may want to offer you different/better advice, i dont know.

I found my first play on normal hard and on my second play through on on hard easier. "Odd" It's suprising how much two good healing mages make. My main as almost 70 Int.

got this yesterday cos it was cheap.

I hate it! I knew i wouldnt like it but i couldnt resist. Im a huge hater of fantasy and this is just tooo much for me

The one thing that ruins it for me is the combat. I have no idea what im doing i click attack and they automaticly do everything. I take a sword swipe and then they do. Just seems boring and pointless.

How do i redeem Shale and dragon armour? Just takes me to s very basic bio forums, nowt about redeems.

What can say that hasn't already been said..:D Brilliant game i chose a warrior and i've just finished the game and managed to rack up 63 hrs of pure delight on it .
At first it was deadly hard and i kept getting killed and fustrated but i stuck it out installed the latest patches and not looked back.

zia

I got this yesterday and have already pumped a fair few hours into it. Unlike normal, I've gone for a rogue, which is unusual for me. Considering a Mage though...

What have you tried? Without knowing, I'll just give you the full monty :)

Sign up and login to the Bioware social network

Make sure you use the same email you use to login whilst playing Dragon Age Origins.

When logged into the game and the Bioware social network website go to "Profile" and then "Redeem Promo Code"

Enter you Stone Prisoner code. Then do the same with your Blood Armour code.

Go back to your DA:O game client (alt-tab or windows key) and click on downloadable content, then click the curly arrow to refresh the window. The two pieces of DLC should show up and you can then download and install them.
