The dreaded kernel power 41 issue

I'm not dead.. I ran speed fan at the beginning of the week and save for planned reboots for updates the machine seems stable.. still it could be a fluke Speed fan runs continuously now
 
I had this same issue where it would randomly turn off like it had reset. It turned out it was the motherboard or cpu as it's fixed now since I upgraded.

I highly suspect you are totally correct but my next upgrades going to be i7 ivy bridge thats going to be around 550 quid I simply need to save the cash.. I WILL continue to bug shoot this build however .. I mean its very annoying especially as I'm one of the guys most goto for this type of issue in my life :)
 
Crap. why is it when I say stuff like (oh that hasn't happened for ages) then it does, at 04:22am this morning my machine rebooted for no apparent reason There is no obvious dip in speedfan logs etc which I am going to include here which is just very annoying

Next step is to speak to my brother who is around and will bring me a HDD to test with then after that its running the pc outside the case .. for me mobo looks suspect or cpu though. (gut feel its the mobo)

I was just looking at the mobo and i noticed that the R.O.G light wasn't lit (not all the time) now this is simply a light and is plugged into the main board (indeed i've tried to remove the plug but I reckon someone at some point has fixed this in or its been done at the factory) so I did the opposite I pushed the connector home a little and now the light is always lit. I'm wondering if this flicker light could potentially be at fault.. well its running now so lets see :) It ain't doing that anymore. if anyones interested I have video footage.

I wish I was here telling you this issue had now subsided but it hasn't... I have yet to take the pc out and try it on plywood or cardboard, but for me that is a significant undertaking and is also a bit dangerous it possibly means running my pc outside the case for longer than a week solid (probably two weeks) as this is how long this issue can take to manifest itself and with small children in the house and this being the main pc its not really viable.

I also feel that if it were an issue with the case shorting the mobo then this would happen more frequently and perhaps it wouldn't even boot (is this right ? )

The problem is seemingly random.. I wish I had another cpu tbh so i could rule that out but I think the time to save for new hardware is now here.Is there any merit in say shutting down cores to test if this is the issue.


Anyone disagree that new hardware is the way forward here ?
 
Random resets with no BSOD have to be a power or temperature issue. Your temperatures are fine so it must be power. You've replaced the PSU and gfx so it must be motherboard.

That's my reasoning anyway :) I don't see any way a hdd, ram, or cpu issue would cause a restart without any kind of error code.

Hi Mate:). I've had this issue over the Christmas period and its been driving me mad. at first i thought it was my PSU or my new GPU but i think i've sorted it on mine.

Do you run Steam? (the gaming platform)

I found that when i was watching vids in steam or it try's to update my computer in the background it would hard reset randomly. I would get the kernel 41 error also. If you don't run Steam ignore me, just thought i would mention it.

Right steps being taken now are to upgrade my mobo I have exhausted all other possible issues, and if I replace the mobo and it happens again I'll be getting a sparkie round to look at home electricity supply.

Oh I do run steam but this has happened when steam is not running also so counts that out.
 
I have to agree with the faulty motherboard issue... My temps were fine but i kept having this issue randomly. As i said before getting a new cpu and motherboard sorted it so its most likely the motherboard as my cpu temps were completely fine.
