Having real HDD problems

Hi everyone. I looked at my logs today, and found the message as stated in the title - The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

I was reccomended to buy a new cable, so I did- but this didn't solve the problem. The only other thing that has changed in the last two days is drivers, so is there a tool or something that can tell me what drivers I need and what I don't need? Also, in Device Manager, some devices are listed twice- is this right:

I don't think this is right, it?

Thanks.

I had the same issue as the op with the same error message.

I tried cables, swapped over the 2 maxtor drives etc, etc. I even checked both drives over 24 hours for errors - there were none.

Eventually I installed a bundle of latest drivers for my motherboard (onboard sata on A8n-Sli Deluxe) and it fixed the problem.
