The Dry January Club

Normally do a dry January but i've been unable to drink much for the best part of 2 years for medical reasons so might give it a miss.

I rarely drink most of the year but do have a few over the Christmas period….so January is less ‘dry January’ and more just reverting to normal. Nice to have a few drinks with mates over the holiday but I am always super glad to get back to sobriety.

I still go to pubs and restaurants but stick to alcohol free options which are plentiful and quite decent these days.

Started to get horrible palpitations when drinking back in October so haven't had a drink since then. First dry Christmas since I was legally allowed to drink (and probably even further back).

The only thing I've really missed is a nice pint of bitter / ale. I have drank my own bodyweight in Guinness zero over the festive period and I've had some lovely non alcoholic beers though, so it hasn't been too bad.

A big part of me is tempted to continue through January and maybe just stay sober.
What are your favourite non alcoholic beers? Brocklyn special effects and Clausthaler non filtered are mine

For a lager, I've found the Estrella Damm 0% to have a nice flavour and a bit more to it than most.

For more IPA style, I really rate Proper Job 0% and Ghost Ship 0%, for ones that are easily available in shops (Sainsbury's mainly)

M&S do a low alcohol 'Southwold IPA' which is very similar to Ghost Ship but with a bit more depth to it.

I had a crate of mixed low alcohol beer from Nirvana brewery and I really rated their 0% Weissbeer. I also like the Erdinger 0% for a Weissbeer bit it's quite high sugar / calorie so I don't tend to drink too many at once.

If you don't mind ordering online, there's loads more choice. Sierra Nevada so some lovely 0% beer and Sam Smiths do a lovely low alcohol brown ale if you like a bitter / darker beer.

It is a bad concept. If you regularly drink then a dry January then reverting to usual drinking in February will make **** all difference except make you miserable.

You are much better working on sustainable lifestyle changes. A moderate reduction in alcohol, trying out the newest 0% beers or spirits, changing attitudes. A 20% reduction all year will be far better for you.
