After years of rumour, denials, more rumours and more denials, an Elder Scrolls MMO has finally been confirmed.

The first details on Bethesda's entry into the online games space will be in the June issue of Game Informer, and will reportedly cover the entire continent of Tamriel, including Skyrim, Morrowind and Oblivion's Cyrodil.

Arriving in 2013, The Elder Scrolls Online is being developed by Zenimax Online Studios and will continue the series' focus on exploration. There will also be player vs player combat, in which users align themselves with one of three factions.

It will be set 1,000 years before the events of last year's Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, telling the tale of daedric prince Molag Bal as he tries to pull Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said Elder Scrolls Online director Matt Firor. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made - and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

£40 for the game + a monthly sub?

They can shove their game up their **** for that price.

"Play with any of the nine races in any alliance" what does this actually mean? I'd assume you get all the races anyway, because if some of them are locked off then that's going to be great.

EDIT: I understand none of this has much to do with OcUK. Worth asking though.

So 40 quid upfront which gets you 30 days use out of it then they hold you to ransom for another 9 quid a month to continue to play it not even blizzard with wow expect that.

Poor show bethesda would have been tempted by this if it was f2p but not interested at these prices, ill stick with skyrim and d3

The game as standard has 3 alliances with 3 races aligned to each.

Pre-ordering allows you to choose an alliance and play any of the 9 races not just those 3 aligned to it.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up.

I was going to say I can't wait for this to go F2P but it's just another generic MMO.

Personally I'd rather it never went f2p but it's inevitable it'll happen at some point. I'd rather spend a monthly fee to ensure regular decent content updates and not just the fluff you get once a game includes a cash shop.

Yep just like swtor was great till it went f2p

I dont think it would even make my top 100 most anticipated games if the beta was anything to go by lol.
I think there only charging so much because they have spent a fortune on this game and know its got a lot of poor feedback.
Bring on Wildstar :D
Also that pre order bonus is crazy..a feature like that would be already in the game for every one. Eventually were going to have to pay just to play different classes lol.

I played BETA as a stress tester for the servers. I spent 3 hours stuck in the first part where you have to leave the cell, I was jumping using block at the chains thinking i had to break them :/.

Turns out the server was not spawning the NPC to let me past the gate. The game is 'OK' but not worth a monthly fee and the servers on the beta was shocking. You ended up stuck every 20 min that needed a hard reset of the game.

I do not think this will last as pay to play, end of 2015 free to play :).

High initial price tells me they have no faith in the lifespan of this game.

yea recover as much money as possible before the player base realises the game has no depth and no point.

no one would care about this if it didn't have "elder scrolls" in the title

it will be just another conan

I played the Beta and while I love the Elder Scrolls series, This game was extremely generic, It seemed like every other MMO on the market and has nothing to make it stand out from the crowd apart from the Elder Scrolls title.

If the finished product is anything like the Beta was then this game will have a very short shelf life.

It does seem a bit pricey for an MMO... Shame they aren't doing an edition with a lifetime sub offer, always liked doing it that way :)
