The Emirates FA Cup 4th Round ** Spoilers ** [25th - 29th January 2024]

Was a classic cup game really, got overconfident with our early goals and spurned chances to kill it off. They scored one out of nowhere with a deflection and suddenly they're right back in it. Credit to them, they put up a fight but you always felt we'd finish it off. Only way it was an even game was in the score line for a short while.

The moment Garnacho hit the bar instead of rolling it over to Bruno or Hojlund to tap in just showed what the issue is, too many individuals and not enough 'team' players, Murphy touched on it in the commentary and said 3 nil and that's the tie done and all it took was a goal and Newport's tails were back up, I always knew you'd run out winners as there's a reason they're in L2 and Man Utd are in the Prem but it made it un-necessarily uncomfortable for a little while due to 1 or 2 poor choices.

That said it was a decently entertaining game and this is the 'magic' of the cup not bloody Luton beating Everton

I can't link it for obvious reasons but Radio Wales Sport mistakenly believed Newport fans were singing "Antony's the greatest". What they were actually singing rhymed with greatest but most certainly wasn't that :D

I mean, thats been the problem at United for over a decade now. If you want to stand out you have to be individually brilliant. There isn't room for cogs in a machine because there is no machine. If you aren't doing something special, chances are you are looking a bit **** because the team is rarely playing well. When the team isn't playing well then the most valuable players are those that change the game in your favour through a moment or a few moments of magic. Your Brunos, Rashfords and Garnachos. Problem is that those players are not team players per-se. Rashfords first, second and third thought is to run into a man and Garnacho wants to get a chance to score. Bruno wants to create chances all the time. Never worries about the benefits of control or pacing a game.

Yes. It was the proverbial "magic of the cup". A good tie for the fans. However, there is little can be learned from it other than the gulf in class told in the end despite it being relatively competitive.
Onana and Rashford aside this was presumably ten Hag's "best eleven" but we saw the same type of performance that we have become unwillingly accustomed to (as Manu supporters). An inability to exert any real control through midfield, profligacy from the wide players and zero chance creation for the £70m centre forward. The manager continues to indulge Bruno Fernandes in this completely free and chaotic system - I can't see how that is consistent with mounting a challenge for any competition.
Garnacho getting some stick but I thought he was good - he always looks like creating and has plenty time to learn. That team hasn't had a decent CF to service for years so will take time for them to tune in.

Oh I've been trying to work out since Baz posted what the hell rhymed with greatest that was bad. I got as far as racist but couldn't work out why they would be chanting that. Mind you what they were actually chanting makes no sense either. Guess they're just thick as **** in Newport

"Anthony is the latest" (player to be scapegoated by the fans for years of boardroom falings at the club). Although admittedly its not very catchy.

I have no idea whos fans were at fault but regardless, they need punishing and it needs to be severe. Those directly involved need banning for life but the clubs need further punishment.

Not just Newport, football fans in general are morons.

As a UTD fan, there’s sod all laughable about it! The lad is so out of his depth it’s quite frightening. :(
It is, and there's times you hear commentators say "Oh he had a good game today"

No idea what they are watching, the one yesterday made me just laugh, where he mis-controlled a pass across the 18 yard line, then held his arms out like he meant it as a lay off to Bruno or Mainoo (can't remember who it was because I was dumfounded)

I feel bad for the likes of Pellistri and Amad, I would rather see them given the chance, but it seems Ten Hag is just trying to make Antony work, or maybe not dent his (over)confidence more.

Hes been accused of sexual assault recently if that helps... the rhyme isn't perfect.

that was awesome and awful in equal measure. i properly cringed for the lad when i saw it, like summat you'd see down the local park during a kickabout with mates.

I've seen a 16 year old on their first day in the morning rush at Greggs use a till quicker than it takes Antony to work out what on earth he's going to do with the ball when he gets it!
