Hey guys,

Having had positive feedback about posting my article here I include my latest. It's about the Voynich Manuscript - a 500-year-old book written in a code that still defies codebreakers.

Was reading about this last week...very interesting that no one has been able to decipher or break the code yet...
 
isn't an unbreakable code relatively simple?

I'm sure there is a an old Greek one.

You have a pad of random numbers (and a duplicate with the recipient) (say picked between 0-1000, duplicates allowed) then you have a pre arranged number for say a word or a phrase, the numbers are added together then sent (original pad destroyed) and the duplicate pad subtracted from the coded message to give the numbers that relate to the word/phrase.

Unless you have either pad or the arranged numbers for the words/phrases there's no way to work it back.


*iirc something similar was made in ww2 for communications between the pm and president.

the machine added a random static/noise to the recorded voice message broadcast it then an identical machine at the other end deducted the exact same noise/static to get the original message back.

Indeed. What a fascinating and captivating story! The book suggests it's some kind of magic/spell book, given the apparent subject matters. All very intriguing. We can only hope it's mystery is unwrapped in our lifetime. What a treasure this manuscript is! Even if it turns out to be nonsense (which seems unlikely, having read your article), it's still a tome that's evaded all effort to unlock its secrets and has captivated generations.

Awesome! Someone should make a nice in-depth, serious documentary about this if they haven't already. I'm off to read up more about it. :)
 
Don't take it too personally, but your style reads like you're trying too hard, and sometimes over flowery descriptions just end up being clumsy. Interesting subject and good content, but I'm not a fan of the way it's written.

I thought that too. There's a fine line between little details and being overwhelmed with unneccessary details.

The manuscript’s plain cover belies the mysteries that it embraces. Strange characters adorn the 240 sun-yellowed vellum pages. Their rise, fall and fluidly curving forms grace each folio with a tidy elegance. Captured by a quill pen and a (mostly) un-erring hand, translation of the words...

For example, I think that reads like a parargrah from a GCSE prose essay.
 
not that surprised, languages are hard to decipher and most have only been done through finding the same passage written in several different languages.

Very interesting though, hopefully someone will crack it eventually.
 
Looks interesting... I think I read an article about some ancient languages nobody can translate a little while ago, there were quite a few!
I have in fact invented my own unbreakable code.
here is a passage from Harry Potter:

"fbsdziur srhgbsirug aebh bvaroiab voibvawbvfiqowrboiw wabevoi "
 
A code might be unbreakable if the sie of the random LUT is larger than the data. However, this gets very difficult when you want to send long messages. and for each new message you would need a new LUT.

hence, even codes where 1000 random numbers were placed into a LUT and duplicated, it doesn't take long to figure out what the rnadom numbers were.

thus, in a mathematical sense simply adding ranodm numbers to your data is not really unbreakable in hte comm sense.
