I read on an internet site that support for CS1.6 is coming to an end. I thought that this was still popular?

Never played it myself as I only joined when Source came out.

end? :s my irc channels says plenty people around and compettions.

although CSpromod looks promising

I stuck at 1.6 for a long time but finally made the switch to CS:S... although there are still a fair number of players on the servers I used to use.

Overall, though, CS:S numbers dwarf 1.6 numbers these days.

Yea support was dropped soon after 1.6 IIRC.

They've removed the player stats from the steam site, still tens of thousands more people playing 1.6 than source last time I saw it.

Don't underestimate the hate 1.6 veterans have for CS:S. It'll live just as long as they do.

in CS:S, every kill is made by spraying in the general direction of the enemy.
headshots with the AK are made by aiming at the foot.
headshots from the M4 are made by aiming at the roof...

Meh, never been a CS fan of any sort, just seems to be the same old thing every round.

Anyway, regarding the OP, fair enough, it is an old game, and people do need to change. You of course will get the old fanboys who will stick with it, until the servers will literally be removed. Then you will get the endless petitions demanding that Valve put servers back up, then you will get the people saying they will never ever buy stuff from Valve again (like people are doing with Creative), and then they will buy HL3 a month later or something. Soo, yeah, who cares :P

Ive played cs for the best part of 6 years and i remember the loss of support like 3/4 years ago?? ahah

cs 1.6... is perfect anyway. no support needed :D

1.6 will always be king, and will not die anytime soon ;)

sorry sourcers, but Lyon85 is right... any true 1.6er... will hate you. :D

valve stopped support for 1.6 ages ago, it just meant they wernt going to patch it or update anticheats etc.
They would not remove it from steam because it doesnt really cost anything to have it on steam, and would be a bad PR move, 1.6 isnt a standalone game, its a hl1 mod, they would have to remove all them. which they wouldnt.
they also make a revenue from the ads remember.

Bring back 6.1. I remember when I first started playing 5.2 and turning up to a UKNet server with a few mates and getting kicked for "Cheating" because we had scores of 21/0 and 41/4.

Used to play for BBK back in the day if anyone remembers it.

Support for CS 1.6 came to and end years and years ago... infact do they even support CSS anymore?

Either way support ending from the Devs end doesn't mean that everyone has it uninstalled automatically and have to go find something else to play. Come back in a couple of years when there is a new game that has replaced CoD4 as the current must have online FPS and CS1.6 will still decimate it in numbers playing. Good games last.

hes right, 1.6 takes a lot more skill than CS:S , they made the game easier to play to get more newbie players into the game... who wants to play a new game were the players are all a lot more experienced than you? There was a video a while back showing the disgrace of the hitboxes

1.6 is and always will be a better game than sauce /thread
