Just shown on channel 4.

A drama outlining the idea of a fictional Britain, one where capital punishment is used! The drama follows Gary Glitter from life, to court to death , giving both sides of the argument and it really made me think.

Is this what society could come too? The death penalty in my opinion would most defiantly be a step back. 2 wrongs don't make a right and while I can see what the victims' families and apparently 54% of the population think about removing a paedophile or murder off our streets, i don't see how i could live with myself knowing I had contributed to the death of another person for what-ever the reason.

Everybody has a right to a life. And should they be in prison for the rest of that life, it means they suffer for what they have done.

I found the drama quite moving to be honest, and think the death penalty is the wrong way to go.

Well he's had his shot at life, just like everyone else, but he blew it. He made the choice.

I'm not a supporter of the death penalty either, but wouldn't be concerned if he just ceased to be alive.

I think we should have capital punishment but only in those cases where there is no doubt that the accused is guilty and only in serious crimes.

Why if you seek to take the life of another or taint it in such a vile way should you have any rights over what becomes of your own life. This is both a moral and practical solution, because if the death penalty still stood, those who offended would be removed from the equation, but also, those who may intend to commit an offence would be less inclined to do so.

was it really appropriate to use a real person in their snapshot of fictional britain?
but yeah I'll need to watch at some point.

Jonney L you have an AWESOME sig there!

Urm yeah hate fictional tv like this, death penalty=REALLY REALLY BAD, Garry Glitter=peado/bad

I didn't want to watch this as it seemed incredibly strange, and more like a thought experiment from a sick individual who's spent too much time obsessing over glitter. Is public hatred for him really that intense that an entire program concerning his fictional death is justified?

I know he's done some bad things, but there are a lot of people that have done far far worse.

I would like to see capital punishment brought back in the UK. To many innocent people are getting hurt with the way the law is today.

Just my opinion, I could give reasons why but I'm sure I have done in the past and I would never say to take someones life over stealing a loaf of hovis before I get any silly comments.

I am completely against state murder. It's very backwards and uncivilised. Don't think the program should have used a real person either.

Public executions are barbaric. The only crimes that justify executing someone are treason and genocide. This is because such crimes can collapse a civilization. These crimes are in a different league to that of the rape and murder of a child which is commonly trumped as the worse case scenario.

I'm happy with the status quo.
