The F1 2014 season

Any of them have any significant reasons for picking those numbers, former drivers or personal.
Most I think.
Jenson is using the number he won his championship with. Magnussen won F3.5?? last year with that number.

I think I read that Perez, Massa and Alonso have chosen their old karting numbers.

Rosberg wants 6 as it's the number his dad won the title with.

I did wonder if Bottas has chosen his purely for marketing reasons. Bo77as should be a good merchandise line for him.

I guess we'll get a full run down at the start of the season.

Yes.

Button - the number of the Brawn GP car in which he won the F1 world championship in 2009

Magnusson - the number of the car in which he won the WSR with last year.

Alonso - won his 1st carting championship with number 14 car, and he was 14 years old, also his lucky number I think

Not sure on the others but I expect they are as well.

I wonder if Vettel is thinking about choosing #1..

You can't choose the #1, it is reserved for the current reigning world champion if they want to use it in place of their personal number.. He will still have to choose a personal number but he can choose to use the #1 or his personal number.

Choosing to use 1 would presumably defer him having to chose a number until he gets beaten, which could be (hopefully not) a few seasons away yet?

Oh how I wish it was team numbers not individual driver numbers. Completely random spread now :(

On the other side - MaldonaD'OH has 13. :D Unlucky for anyone around him I suppose...

Its going to be decades before these numbers earn any sort of meaning.

Interesting they allowed 13. The previous number system skipped it.

This system has its uses though, how many times have you seen "Car XX under investigation for blah blah blah" come up on the screen, then have to try and work out whether it relates to anyone significant or not? With this it won't take long to learn the numbers of the main players so that you'll instantly know who's n trouble.

Brave choice from Maldonado though, the gutter press are going to love that.

So Vettel will become the new "Red 5". Nice bit of unintentional trolling towards his UK 'fan club'.

Maldonado and 13 were made for each other. Can't wait for the carbon fibre showers. :D

I still think this is all rather gimmicky, but I might have been won over if someone had stuck #69 on the nose of their ride.

Its a great thing, as others have said you only need to learn the numbers once, then when it says car 13 under investigation every other lap you know who it is. Be nice if they made the numbers prominent on the nose or rear wing, but I doubt it, lose to much sponsorship money.

I was a bit disappointed that no-one had asked for this. Unless the FIA realised and said, 2-68, 70-99 are the numbers you can have. :D

I loved Kimi's "I had 7 last year and I see no reason to change it" reasoning for his number.
