So being that they have come out with some rule changes for next year, I thought we could keep the current 2014 thread clean.

No tyre blankets
Teams will no longer need to design and manufacture their own unique suspension and brake ducts, which should help reduce costs. I.E. these can be brought off the shelf, though it will be interesting who these can be brought from.

Formula 1 is to make another attempt to ban tyre warmers in 2015. Previous efforts to introduce a ban have been scuppered because of safety concerns, amid worries from drivers about racing on cold tyres. But as part of a raft of changes proposed for 2015, the FIA announced on Thursday that all forms of tyre heating devices will be outlawed.

Further changes for 2015 include the fact that teams will no longer need to design and manufacture their own unique suspension and brake ducts, which should help reduce costs.

And I bet it's that X FIA guy(forget his name) that has setup his own company. F1 is beyond a joke now.

They will never bring costs down unless they bring in a cap and we all know it's rbs that veto's it all the time.

Thats the thing. The stock kit will be old and naff compared to what RBR, Ferrari and Merc will be building. Sure, you can save costs by buying that kit, but it will be so crap that you might as well not race because you will be at the back of the grid.

Weight limit ges up to 701kg to account for bigger drivers and slightly heavier tyres.

Gear ratios will also be entirely fixed for 2015, no joker like this season.

You have to wonder just how much money can be saved from discouraging teams from designing their own brake ducts. I mean, I'm sure they're made from some complex carbon-fibre derivative, but in the end, it's a duct. The aerodynamic properties of it are obviously more important, but surely each one is bespoke to a car? You couldn't nick the Red Bull one, adapt it to fit a McLaren and go faster.

I can't see the point of that one.

Banning tyre blankets I'm all for - not so much for the cost-cutting, but the resultant skill it will require from a driver. There's something special about whacking on a set of super sticky tyres and just going for it, but it requires more from a driver to go as quickly as possible with a relatively unknown level of grip. We've all been screaming for years about making the drivers work, removing the dependency on the cars - well here we have another little chance for the drivers to gain performance under their right boot.

Still, how much of this actually gets ratified is another matter.

Why?

Still, the tyre blanket rule is something I can get on board with.

The joker is for teams to get accustomed to the new regulation and there if they make a mistake.

Transmission and tracks will be largely the same for 2015, so no need for a joker.

No different to how it is now, back teams buy lots of old components. So I don't see how this rule changes anything at all.

As for tyre warmers, surly this all depends on tyre compounds and how well they work from cold and how long they take to heat up.

These are mostly proposals, not confirmed.

The fixed gear ratios was already in.

They have tried to ban tyre warmers numerous times before and never got it through. I don't see how this is any different.

I'm more interested in what rules they are going to hastily knock up to counter act the hideous 2014 noses, a la the 2013 vanity panels.

Don't see the fuss if banning tyre Warner's. Just drive a bit slower for a few laps.

The way teams are talking, it's only them who dont have them. Everyone is the same...

This is the next step in a long sneaky process, to turn Formula 1 into a proper formula, in 2016, the undertray will be standardised, followed by the bodywork, and finally the aero surfaces..

By 2020, they will all be driving identical cars.

The tyres will be completely different and designed for it, so it won't be anything like as problematic as if they banned them for this season.

I imagine myself and most of this board will be watching something else then.

I like the EV series concept, should be interesting with a bunch of old/ex F1 drivers. In 6 years time who knows where it might end up.

Any tyre that can heat from ambient to 100c quick enough to not be a right pain for laps is also going to be worn out within minutes.

By taking a few laps to warm up.

Pit stops already rob far to much time in F1. Making the car slow for a few laps after means nobody is going to want to stop more than once. So it will just be "save tyres, save tyres, save tyres" all race long.

A pit stop in F1 is a major pita to teams now they aren't strategic (I.e. no fuel). They are a mandatory loss of time. Making the time lost increase isn't going to suddenly make teams want to stop more, is it?

Its why JRS often mentions the pitlane speed limit. Its never going to be removed, but he has a point. Imagine if a pit stop only lost you 5 seconds...?
