The F1 Season 2024 as rated by OcUK

People can vote how they want..isn't that the point of gaining forum members opinion in the first place? or are people not allowed to hold an opinion unless it confirms to some sort of forum wide biases?
If someone wants to vote 10 and then 1 based on their favourite drivers performance then that's still as good a vote as any.
As I understand it to be it is a poll on the race, as the race weekends header's states, not just about anyone's favourite driver, that is how I vote and will continue to do so.

F1 is getting more like football every year.. My football team wins.. "I love football".. my football team loses.. "football is stupid and should die"..

I don't remember F1 fans being so "fanny" back in the day.. or maybe I just have rose tinted glasses..

Its because the fanbase is now a lot younger than it used to be and a lot more 'normies' watch it than in previous eras (in the UK at least, partly due to Hamilton's dominance). It used to primarily be viewed as a sport for middle aged men but Liberty Media went all out to diversify the audience as well as lowering the age of the average viewer.

They did this very effectively but a side effect is you're going to import demographics who typically don't know much about motorsport or even F1's history and these new younger audiences bring a more tribal football mindset to the sport.

Social Media then amplifies this even further.

If you could mute everyone under the age of 30 from F1 social media im willing to bet things would feel a bit more like they used to.

Yeah wasn't it during one of the recent seasons where there were fights in the crowd. Shame really.

You're probably right.

I kind of understand the F1 "team" mentality, and I always like the "older" teams to do well..

But based on the replies above, there also seems to be a lot more people that are fans of a single driver.. What are they going to do when that driver retires or moves to a different sport? stop watching F1?!? Do they even "Like" F1 as a sport?

I find it very wierd..

I've always supported a single driver above others throughout the years.

The driver retires, I find another one I like to support. I don't see anything wrong with that and I've been watching F1 since the early 80s.

I did chuckle a little bit as I went through the polls to see that we have someone who always seems to vote 10 if Max wins and 1 if he doesn't
I didn't expect a witch hunt from this, it's not why I posted it, it just made me chuckle.

Valid point.. and an interesting way to view F1..

I guess I don't support any particular driver.. prefering "British" drivers over others I suppose.. so I do have a "preference" but I certainly wouldn't say I didn't enjoy a particular race if one of those I prefer didn't win.

I suppose i just enjoy the motorsport, although these days it's getting harder to call it a "sport" when the entertainment is more important than the "sport"

I believe this 'fight' was just one person at the Mexican race who decided to take on a few others and he was subsequently banned for life.
Let us not take one incident out of perspective..

Netflix mentality.
It’s not fun bringing it up but it’s not just DTS. 2021 was arguably the most polarising incident in the history of the sport and has done a lot more damage than people even imagined at the time. Not just damaging the credibility of the sport and leadership as a whole, but creating extremely partisan fans on both sides.

I was talking to a couple of colleagues at work and they’re not really F1 fans but had awareness and watch a few races (they are fans of a lot of different sport). We got into the subject of F1, the usual characters… and I was joking about not going off on a rant about “it” so let’s change the subject. But totally unprompted they did anyway and I barely got a word in :o

I would think F1 seasons statistically tend to be decided typically earlier than this one did when you average them out. So on that basis it was a good watch as the drivers championship was kept sort of alive going into the final few races. Constructors down to the last race, so that had pressure and meaning. Overall a good watch. Things I think they can still improve are consistency of stewarding, track limits and sorting out the whole forcing a driver off the track thing. Otherwise F1 seems to be thriving I would say. Fan base is high. Next season could/should be highly competitive, with possibly even a new champion.

It's a good strategy. Next season I'm voting 1 for every race that Alonso doesn't win. How many races in 2025 again? :D
I vote races higher when Alonso, my favourite does well.
I vote races higher if Hamilton finishes very low down, my least favourite driver.
I vote races a bit higher if Alonso finishes higher than Hamilton.

(In reality all 3 of these things don't happen often enough for my liking :D )

Probably not every race, but I suspect if I looked at the times I voted we could find some Hamilton, Alonso correlation!

I take the race votes as just a bit of fun tbh, I didn't even see this season summary voting style thread previous years.
