It's too slow.

They should have just made a slope the boats could drive up. Much easier.

Pretty quick considering it's a 24m height difference, that would be one hell of a big lock gate.

Looking around i see the French have huge lifting machines on the canels... some look like mamoth cranes on water.

Takes the same amout of pwoer to run a kettle as it does to lift the barge up, thats good.

Had fun a few months back bringing a narrow boat down the wheel. The view of the Ochill(sp!?) hills/mountains is fantastic - its up there with oblivion for exhilaration!

I'm also a bit biased 'cos my cousin was one of the Civil Engineers working on it...
