The Falklands thread

I thought we had an attack sub not a Vanguard stationed there, unofficially of course, but with the arrival of the '45 I'd be feeling pretty safe if I were a resident on the Island, regardless of what posturing they're (Arg) trying to show around the world & at the UN.

It's impossible to know, i've not managed to drag too many storys out of the x submariners which work for us however the list of countrys they vist on one tour is quite extensive.

Its been widely reported although not officialy confirmed that its a Trafalgar class, either Tireless or Turbulent.

The press are pretty much working on the process of elimination. i.e they know which SSNs are in port, they know Astute is on trials in the west indies, they know one is in the gulf

They really are trying to milk this for all its worth. A threat to global security, just what on earth? They seem to want to convince the world we want to nuke them or something. Why do they keep going on about giving peace a chance, the only way we would use force is if they invaded again and they know this.

Surely everyone can see right through this?

I think the penny is dropping now, even among the warmongers.

I took it semi seriously until I saw the transcript from her speech where she said the Falklands were a global issue.

At that point I literally LOL'd, and thought "silly Argies"

Aye. I completely agree and cant see this getting much consideration with the UN either. Besides, the UN always seems to get undermined in one way or another at vfhe moment so what is the point. The Syria veto case being a prime example.

I think you will find that a the Chinese or Russians have nothing that could get close to a Type 45 :)

Strikes me as a tad over-confident.

Even if our stuff is a lot more advanced, luck can always play a part... as can bad tactics/ decisions.

I thought the Russians had some bad-ass torpedos too... Shkval it's called?

Admittedly I know nothing of military hardware :)

This is all getting really rather silly now, and I'm rather surprised that the Argies honestly expect the rest of the world to believe that we're apparently going to nuke them over the Falklands. If I were Argentinian I'd be mortified at the nonsense my government were spouting over the issue.

"HMS Dauntless is being sent to the South Atlantic as part of routine operations."

Genuine laugh from me.

Me too...

They do it's called Type 052C destroyer

Surely the presence of a nuclear submarine would deter any thoughts they might have of invading British soil. Obviously we wouldn't launch a nuclear missile at them in a million years over something like this, but it's mere presence should be a deterrence at least.

But if we won't use it, how is it a deterrent? ;)
