Wow! didn't think they were that big. Mind you, 42's aren't exactly massive, but the type 45's are bigger than I thought.
It's not an escalation, we've been sending T42s for years and they are being retired and replaced with T45, at some point a T45 has to be Atlantc Patrol Task (South) because we only have a certain amount of ships. An escalation would be increasing the size of APT(S) or moving the FRE down there.
They are beautiful ships, its a real crime we didn't order the full 12 as requested originally! 
When the carriers are ready, you'd expect 2 to escort it around town, so *if* the Wales carrier is made active then that too would need escorting leaving 2 for other duties?
I suppose the Type 23 are enough at the moment to join in on escorting duties, until the Type 26 come around but I wish they start building these ships now, it would create so many jobs.
2020+ is going to be a good time for the Navy with the completion of the carriers, full service of the Type 45's and the Type 26's being built & entering service and finally the last of the Astute class entering service in 2020+.

Well there is one thing we can help the Argentines with.
According to the clip of the announcement that the BBC have on their website the way our ship was called a "Destroyer" caused some alarm.
I therefore propose that they are renamed "Fluffy Cuddles and Rainbows class ships of love" instead so they are not so upsetting in the future.

I think the routine escort for a CVF would only be one Type 45, with a couple of Type 23s and an SSN. In high threat areas it would be increased probably with an extra T45 and T23. Most of the deployments these days might include other european nations providing escorts as well to be honest.

But yes beautiful in a technological sort of way.

If you had to bail out of a plane or ended up floating around the sea in a bathtub i can guarantee that would be the best looking ship you've ever seen in your life.
I actually really like how they look, very modern and minimalist, it should go in an art exhibit.

Even then, I doubt front line soldiers had any more access to the ongoing politics than we do now, and I imagine it was actually far less
Lol ...Hugo Chavez and his band of merry thugs can go swivel, as if anyone cares what that washed up wind-bag has to say. The might of Venezuela has yet to wrestle Curacao from the hands of the Dutch, and it's only about 20 miles or so off their coast, so I think we can safely ignore this joker.
If China/Russia had supplied them with any of their advanced anti-ship missiles our high tech gear could end up on the seabed rather quickly.

Hardly, it's designed to counter any of the latest threats, that's even if China / Russia have sold / lent them anything, which is unlikely, given they don't really have anything to launch them from and deals involving new aircraft / ships don't go unnoticed.

Argentina only want the oil to boost their crumbling economy, the residents want to stay British which annoys the hell out of Argentina, this making them more willing to fight for round two of the saga.
If the Argentinians want to fight then you'll have the other south american countries, minus Brazil, getting involved and subsequently siding with them, the USA tried to get Brazil involved before and failed as they hate Argentina, so I doubt the USA would side with Argentina except only to pick the pieces as they are doing in the middle-east.

What I find strange is that as about the time as the decision to cut the Type 45's by 6 was taken, this rather interesting concept starts emerging on BAE System's website, that apparently uses a T45 hull as it's basis.....
Perhaps we'll get the T45 hulls eventually in this form? It'd be awesome if we did. Keep the T45's for escorting the carriers, use these monsters as independent surface combatants.
