The Falklands thread

I think we should just ignore Argentina from now on. They are like a little spoilt brat nagging mummy (the UN) to let them have it.

They attempted to take it by force and were wtfpwned back across the water. The islanders want to be British, and so they are.........

perhaps our government could send the other t45 thats entering service this month down there too, ideally with a massive picture of that "come at me bro" squirrel and perhaps a huge troll face on the other. ideally in sync with sending another load of eurofighters down there too. at that point Cameron should make a public address telling the argies to STFU noobs

quite :)

I would love to know the reasons for the argies 'claim' on the islands.

Ha ha, why can't international relations be like this? ;)

This is just a ridiculous story. My only guess is that it is over oil, but half the time I reckon the Argentine governing body just rattles the sabre for its own political gain to keep the Argentine populace happy / distracted.

What I find strange is that as about the time as the decision to cut the Type 45's by 6 was taken, this rather interesting concept starts emerging on BAE System's website, that apparently uses a T45 hull as it's basis.....

Perhaps we'll get the T45 hulls eventually in this form? It'd be awesome if we did. Keep the T45's for escorting the carriers, use these monsters as independent surface combatants.

Not bad, I wouldn't mind a few of them being built in replace of the cancelled T45's!

Argentine claims

Supporters of the Argentine position make the following claims:

  • That sovereignty of the islands was transferred to Argentina from Spain upon independence, a principle known as uti possidetis juris.
  • That Spain never renounced sovereignty over the islands, even when a British settlement existed.
  • That Great Britain abandoned its settlement in 1776, and formally renounced sovereignty in the Nootka Sound Convention. Argentina has always claimed the Falklands, and never renounced its claim.
  • That the re-establishment of British rule on the Falklands (referred to as an "act of force" by Argentina) was illegal under international law, and this has been noted and protested by Argentina since 17 June 1833.[44]
  • That the principle of self-determination is not applicable since the current inhabitants are not aboriginal and were brought to replace the Argentine population (see below).[2]
  • That the Argentine population was expelled by an "act of force" in 1833.[2]
  • That the islands are located on the continental shelf facing Argentina, which would give them a claim, as stated in the 1958 UN Convention on the Continental Shelf.§[45]
  • That Great Britain was looking to extend its territories in Americas as shown with the British invasions of the Río de la Plata years earlier.[46]

Source as my last post

Basically, Argentina say that the FI's became theirs when they got independence from Spain as it was supposedly Spain's at the time and that the UK had abandoned the Islands. The UK then came back in 1833 and supposedly forced the Argentinians to hand over control to the UK

I believe it's essentially that they are 'close' to Argentina (290 miles close) and that Argentina had a prison colony there a little bit before Britain took over the islands, however their were claims to the islands dating back into the 1600s from various European powers' lets not forget that Argentina was a Spanish colony when various claims were being thrown around anyway. It's worth noting that Argentina did not even exist as an independent state until 1816. Argentina also 'claim' South Georgia and the South Sandwich islands, which are also British overseas territories ...they just don't make much fuss about these.

Britain was the first country to really put down a lasting colony and actually make something of the islands. Using Argentinian logic ...Denmark could say to us, hey much of Britain was once a Danish colony and it's within 300 miles of us, we claim sovereignty over Britain!

How dare you Sir! ...how dare you suggest that something of French origins could come from our green and pleasant land, perish the thought!

Freefaller accepted of course.

I would rather think that a French descended galactic empire is built on British Technology.

And every Argentinian is going to move back to Spain and hand the land back to the natives. Or they would, had they not been wiped out.

Well if the hull and power train turns out to be a good set-up then they could use them for just about anything and bulk ordering stuff that is already being made would be much cheaper then new R+D and re-tooling of factories.

untick the sampson radar tower box on the ordering sheet, fit a selection of asw/ anti ship weapons and you have a ready to roll Multi-purpose frigate.

Presuming no hull or under deck problems emerge over the next few years anyway.

No one uses Caldari damage drones tho :p

But they do kinetic damage, and insta popping guristas with them is fun :D

The hull of the t45 with a new general function sounds like a smart move, less up front cost, big payoff.

T2 ships anyone? :D

edit: little more eve geekness here, i hope that thing can fit some DCU's :D :D

The French were certainly happy to sell them missiles.

Although it pains me to admit it, the French may have actually been our closest allie. They immediately stopped missile sales and arranged for a shipment about to be delivered to Peru to go around the Atlantic in circles to delay the delivery until after the war. French aircraft helped sea harriers train and mock Exocet attacked British warships to get them ready for the battle in the south Atlantic.

Although America did greatly help us, they took there sweet time in declaring there public support. I can't help but think if they'd backed us fully from the outset then war might have been avoided. France on the other hand helped us fully publicly and militarily like an allie should from the very start.

If you're British and want a bad guy to blame then look at Israel (*in no way connected to all that Zionist rubbish from earlier*) who did there very best to help Argentina - I don't know why, you'd think they would have backed us with Argentina's history of aiding Nazi's.

I had originally heard that those nasty French had been helping sink our ships and researched for more of there evil doings but the truth was just the opposite, the more I looked the more I found that the French were very good to us.
