I have ps3 and PC with a Pile of games (steam=140 ) unplayed or under played and the new consoles and new released games make me want to buy them but I still want to pay older games there is just so much content being released I can't keep up.
What do you do?

I only buy games I know I'll play. It really is that simple.

I was pretty tempted by Fallout new vegas for £2.50 but I've got hearts of iron 3 to play through right now so wasn't confident I'd play it so just left it. It will come up on sale again and perhaps my gaming situation might be different then.

Stop buying games that your not ready play you will save money as the games should go down in price if you buy them at later date.

Same here. When I first started looking at the Steam sales I went a bit crazy and bought stuff I have never played, just because it was cheap and I was thinking of rainy days. I haven't bought anything the last two as there simply hasn't been anything new. I'm up to speed with the big new releases and they keep me more than occupied. Games are so much more available at discount now, all the time, as well. So many key sites etc. Steam has lost it's 'exclusive' grip to be fair.

Pretty much the same as the above for me. Still have unplayed games from the summer 2012 Steam Sale and in recent times have mostly added stuff from offers such as Humble Bundles that have been too tempting to refuse - even if the games might not get played in the foreseeable future!
 
Only buy games you really want to try.

If you're like me, this is still an awful lot of games :D

Must have close to 100 I have not played.

Thing is, I know a bunch of those I will probably not like when it comes time to try them.

For example, Test Drive Unlimited 2. Couldn't stand it. So now it's assigned to my "Z" list, which contains all games I hate and would get rid of if I could.

I may have spent a lot of money on games, but not much or any more than I could have spent on 2 or 3 new release games, so I don't feel too guilty about it.

With possible exception of Titanfall, The Devision, I don't think I will buy a new game this year, and possibly not even those two.

20% through the last of us ands its as good as any PC release last 7 years easily , ni no kuni is also waiting to play and that's exclusive ps3 and red dead is still unfinished. So I am not ready to write off that system yet.
 
Work and family means limited time and to many games means I never greet tho grips with the pile of shame but this year I will try not to buy anything well apart from xcom expansion I really want that.

It's taken me a while to achieve this philosophy but I'm happier for it... Though of course I do make the odd exception for indie developers!
 
What I do is simply not buy the new consoles and newly released games. I wait a while and then pick them up when they are cheaper.

On PC I pretty much never pay more than £15 for a game and usually under £8 unless it is something I *really* want to give a whirl (Max Payne 3 being a good example) or is like a deluxe version with loads of extras. A while back I worked out the average price I've paid per game on Steam and it was only a couple of quid.

"Missing out" only really matters if you are into the social side of gaming i.e. you want to play multiplayer while it is still very active, you don't want to get 'left behind' in terms of learning a new game, or you have a lot of friends/forumites playing and talking about a given game and you want to join in those type of conversations. There has been the odd occasion where I've perhaps missed out e.g. when Skyrim was released a few people at work were playing it and I couldn't join in those conversations.

All depends what is important to you, I'm a 'purist' gamer so playing games fully patched up on faster hardware is more important to me than whatever the flavour of the month is.
