got an error 55 the file system structure on the disk is corrupt

cant see anyfles on this storage hard drive

running chkdsk/r atm

chkdsk /f ran fine still cant see any files

windows 8.1 still picks the drive up and says 2.62 tb used 100gb free

just cant see any of the files

got another 3tb exactly the same and plugged it in works fine
both came from a win xp system that id done the gpt trick on to get it to work with drive over 2tb (hope that makes sense)

it had worked fine for about a month

any ideas how to get it to show files again???

id unplugged it for a day to backup all files off a different hard drive

possibly plugged it in a different sata port but the other 2 drives work fine and a different sata drive plugged in on this cable works fine

so dont think thats caused the problem leaves me a little stumped

is the drive somehow dead?

not end of world if lost i do have backups
lose a few weeks of non critical files just a slight pita

i hoped with the way it was working before and isnt clicking and is still recognised there may be a simple solution reinstall ntfs driver or something

it did work briefly after reconnecting
i moved somefiles over to it thenturned off next time i turned on dnw
other hard drives all fine

having googled this repeatedly and not coming up with anything im no closer to knowing why

but by sticking windows 8.1 disk in and going to repair advanced options file explorer i can see all the files in some funny hidden folder

first i tried moving to a different folder id created on same drive still not visible in windows

managed to copy to a different hard drive files all there in windows

stuck original corrupt drive in old winxp pc that created the gpt it works ok can move files around and copy them off there are 3 or 4 of the most recent files that seem corrupt... i dont know why

iv put the corrupted drive in new pc and reformatted it then filled it back up seems completely fine a few weeks down line

strange problem for no apparent reason been a headache to fiddle with... would have been quicker to wipe in first place restore from backup and then redownload the new files i needed
