Yeah, I've had a few outright losses in service that have been logged but I've never complained about pings or DNS timeouts. I suppose I should start to build up a fault history but it's gonna mean 25p a min calls to them pretty much every day which I stongly suspect will entail them trying to get my to run through their checklist (turn off p2p etc) and claiming that it must be the sites/servers I'm visiting that are having problems.

With the state of http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do here I'm sure they have a pretty good idea of how much the network struggles at any other time than the wee hours.

Have just switched over to using OpenDNS's servers, so far so good. Not a single time out this evening :)

mine hung before starting the test for about 5 min, but it did go.

my results,
Download Speed: 1968 kbps (246 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 226 kbps (28.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

2mb line - not bad!! :D

page isn't working for me either. but it's only using speedtest.net anyway - which is working fine if you access it directly.

http://speedtest.net

i just got 4937kbps which is kind of disappointing considering the time of day (on ukfsn/enta). :o

2MB PlusNet connection. Absolutely terrible.

On 8MB Pipex Max here,

first test gives 1250kbps, second gave 3100kbps and the last gave 990kbps  not really the best time of night i guess

Summary: This is a poor indicator of actual speed as it only tests connection to one location, use a test that shows connectivity to multiple servers in different locations such as this and report back ?

Detailed post: here

This test is telling me 4mb/s yet Speedtest is telling me 20mb/s. Just run both of them 3 times alternating each time and same results each time.

20mb Virgin cable.

That's rubbish aswell, for me, very rarely does the download test ever work and when it does it never goes over 4mb, must have run it at least 15 times and half the tests fail.

That's with the modem and router being on non stop for this period of time: (wireless too btw)

Quite happy with that ^_^

The Gadget Show one keeps hanging.. So I thought I'd use this one!!.

TalkTalk (upto) 8Mb...

Up to a week ago I was on 0.9mb... they've finally upgraded the exchange (I'm about 1.3km from it!!)

as mentioned in the other thread, speedtests like these are quite meaningless without your sync and ip profile information - whilst your router should tell you what you're synched at, only the BT speedtester will give you your ip profile.
