I had a crazy idea.. Why don't we find out who the favourite guitarist on OcUK is.

Basically, I thought everyone could post one guitarist which they would want to enter to be 'the greatest ever'. I know everyone has more than one favourite uitarist, but if you had to pick just one (maybe two ;)), who would it be?

A video would be nice to show why your guitarist has been entered. :)

When there have been enough suggestions, we could select the most popular and then maybe have a poll?

Anywho, I'm going to enter Tommy Emmanuel. He's played in many different styles and ways leading upto his blistering acoustic playing which everyone now knows him for. His charisma on stage is unmatched, and many say the same for his technique.

Eric Clapton. ;)

I'm one of the old guys on here and Clapton has never done much for me HOWEVER I listen to Planet Rock a lot and especially My Planet Rocks.
My Planet Rocks features mainly the older famous musician who then plays their favourite tracks by other artists and gives their views on them.
Of course Hendrix features in 9/10 of these interviews but Clapton is also mentioned 9/10 as being the first guitarist to find the volume control on his guitar.
Its also no secret that Clapton was Hendrix's hero and Hendrix only came here because Chas Chandler lined him up to jam with Clapton.
theres also the famous Lulu clip where Hendrix stopped playing his song and then burst into a cream tune in homage to Clapton.

After listening to dozens of these interviews it seems to me that Clapton is regarded as the best in the world and certainly the biggest innovator.

Nice post.
Here's that volume control getting some use (and me filing my vote in this thread) http://youtube.com/watch?v=MUpc0YNkkJ0

..and some of Albert Lee's Chickin' Pickin'

I went to see Clapton back in 81 or 82, and he hardly played any guitar at all, preferring to sing....
But, he had Albert Lee playing guitar, who was amazing.

Anyway, although I'm not a Pink Floyd fan, my vote for guitarist goes to Dave Gilmour - just love his tone, and economy of playing.

Honourable mention for Dan Huff for sheer versatility.
