The Greatest Video Game Endings of All Time - SPOILERS!

Mafia ending was tremendous, a fitting end to a great story.

I've never took a day off in anticipation of playing a game on release day, but i will be for Mafia 2's release date, can't wait.

Again with the Mafia, and that list is a sham as its not in it.

I think I played the last level about 3 times in a row just for the ending. Just the way it was all done, the fanstastic voice acting and the monologue's all fitted brilliantly.

"Mr Salieri send his regards"

I felt the best final fantasy ending was FFX. FFVI through to FFVIII were better games but the excellent voice acting and advancements in CG technology utilized in FFX immersed me so much, it was like watching the end of a really good film.

I wouldnt go as far as calling it excellent, good maybe but far from excellent. It was a massive accomplishment and a step forward for having voice acting for most of the game (and a LONG game at that) I will agree with you on that, but the qaulity of some of the voice acting talent was attrotious.

Tidus - God the numerous amount of times I just wanted to rip his vocal cords out...
Yuna - Another annoying one because her voice was constantly high, low, high, low (especially during the emmotional parts of the story)
Rikku - Same as Tidus but 10x worse
Wakka - Not really the sound of his voice but the accent really annoyed me

FFXII on the other hand had some of the best sounding voice actors I had ever heard in a game, Fran and Balthier especially, but it was let down by the mediocre story and lack of character interaction. Another thing that spoiled it for me was that they were boasting about having a huge ammount of different races in the game, more so then any other Final Fantasy to date, yet we only got to play as 1 Viera and 5 Humes :(

One thing I hope they do in the future since Blu-ray can hold more data is include the Japanese voices as well with the option to turn on English subtitles (its already happened with Blue Dragon and Naruto on 360) since thats the only thing I dislike about JRPG's is that they usually force the English voices upon you, which in most cases suck.

If developers want to impress me with their blu-ray crap, they can start by putting in Japanese voices for Japanese games. With the amount of demand this kind of thing sees, I am surprised nobody bothers too. They've made a good start with the Naruto game on 360, where you can download the Japanese voices. Albeit for a price (because Microsoft are a bunch of holes)

Zelda : Ocarina of Time was one of the best endings i ever had as a kid to a video game, defeating Gannon was pure bliss.

no way. I did the mission and the credits started rolling and i was a bit:confused: It went from a lot of guy to kill to end game in a matter of seconds, i felt let down

You must have been playing a different game! The whole story led to the conclusion which was masterfully realised!

I just finished cod4, that was a great ending imo!

I thought the first major cutscene (helicopter, boom, etc) was pretty horrific. Sounds daft but I got goosebumps, just was NOT expecting that at all!

But the ending was like a film, very very well done and kinda made me think "I wonder if that's what it is like?".

Poignant moment for sure.

I'd recommend VIII. I understand the general consensus is that VII is the best and yes, it did bring some great features however I feel VIII builds on those features and the way the story is told in such a fluidly cinematic way makes something hugely more emotive than any book or film I've ever read/seen.

I'm a massive FF fan, and although I love the FF8 graphics / music / chars / story, it's ruined by a few things. i didn't like the junctions system (the magics part, the GF bit is fine. The whole "draw" idea is terrible), and the fact that the monsters level up with you!?! Why would you do that?

I love all the Resident Evil endings and beginnings, especially how every ending features an exploding building of some sort lol. Great games though, i cant wait for Resi 5 :).

COD4 was a great ending to an amazing game. The bit when price passes you the gun and you shoot the three guys is so good the first time you play it! I also liked the 'good' bioshock ending.

Thinking about game endings do any games have a massive twist at the end that changes everything that went before it? Similar to the Sixth Sense/Saw/Donnie Darko etc? There certainly hasn't been many! Too many happy endings! lol
