***The High-Res Screenshot Thread!***

Nice shots @humbug .
For the last one, the lack of shadows underneath the characters/players/NPC is something common when there are plenty around or just particular to this scene? Seems rather distracting.

Its in doors and there are no shadow casting lights in that spot, or there are and its glitched out because there’s what? up to 100 people there?

You do see this in Star Citizen in some in-door places because shadow casting lights are very performance expensive and like with every game they are used sparingly, this is something that Ray Tracing has fixed for all games.

Its a very large space, the ship in the background is 100 metres long, you can't put them everywhere, notice the ships in the background do have shadows, that's where the shadow casting lights are.
Again Ray Tracing will fix this and it is coming but as they said its on a vast scale so they can't use it as it is, it doesn't even work on this scale it just implodes, they tried to use AMD's version as that is the most optimal but they found errors in the code and it need's completely refactoring to work as they need it to, so yet again have to create what is virtually their own unique version of something.

Thanks. It looks very out of place compared to the general look I've seen so far.

Its interesting that your should mention this as very recently the games backers have had criticisms of the promotion cinematics, that being they don't look quite like the game and the accusation being they are prerendered in another application like Blender.

CIG have addressed this in the past saying no it is all in engine and in real time, this time they went further explaining there are hidden graphics settings in the engine that are used for the cinematics..... and that was that, or so it would seem.

They must have thought more about this as in the build that is currently in testing they have unlocked those setting for the player to apply, where as before the settings topped out at high and very high they now go to ultra, there are now also about twice as many setting options, and sure enough if you set all of it to ultra the game looks like the cinematics... with a huge cost in performance, you need a 5090 to run them at 4K 60+.

They also explained they don't actually have a way to generate the planets and assets in something like Blender. They have to use the engine.

The screenshot here were taken in the current live build, 4.4, 4.5 with the new graphics options launches probably next week and the shadow option are now unlocked.
The game is in constant flux, 90% of the needed tech is in and they are now building it out, 2025 has been by far the biggest year yet with new star systems, new game mechanics, PVP and PVE dungeons added ... 11 major patched this year, what's left is crafting and base building (development on those has just been completed) the final planetary tech (Genesis) wich will be added to planets in the new star system just launched as a test bed for that (Nyx) and then the rest of all existing planets and moon’s reworked to it.
And finally Dynamic Server Meshing. after that a couple more star systems and it will be locked in and made the 1.0 release

This is not the end of it, that's just making the game stable and viable, new star systems will keep getting added to it for as long as the game lives.

The fact they've kept those settings behind a barrier and sold everything like "look what we can DO" during these presentations is lying, deceiving even. I understand the old BS with "in engine", meaning prerendered and assets of a quality you're not going to get in the game, but this, putting them out like it was normal gameplay... hell no!

As fir 5090 for 4k60fps... yeah, that's normal for cutting edge graphics.

That's a fair criticism, one the community has made and they have now unlocked those graphics settings, for Vulkan only which its just been finished and polished out.... that may be why. IDK. Up until the patch that is about to be launch DX11 was the default API, Vulkan has been an option for the last couple of years but strictly as a beta test option.
The finished version of Vulkan is about to be launched with those graphics options, DX11 is getting disabled and ripped out of the engine soon after.

Now I've put it on my second monitor I can read the text :)
I like the look of that. Must go check it out

Escape from the pit is the first one (well it's a remake of a remake of the first one) it costs a whopping £2.97atm.
Although the graphics are obviously basic, I don't mind for this style of game and the writing seems pretty good.
