Are these any good and what are they like to play - 3rd person stealth similar to Splinter Cell?

I have never played any of the games but I watched the movie Hitman recently and it has inspired me to try the games. I did download the demo of the first game (made in 2000?) but it doesn't want to run in XP for me.

I see the first game has mixed reviews. Which game should I as a newcomer to the series start with?

Amazing games!

First one was rather buggy but all amazing and well worth playing!

Start with the first and work your way through them all in order

I was just looking today to see when Hitman 5 is out. I'm guessing Summer or Late 2009.

Blood Money is one of my favourite games ever.

They're fantastic games DD, the best series on PC as far as I'm concerned.

I'd really stick with the older engines and go through them in order, it will help the story along.

i would start with hitman 2 as there a few problems with the first one on pc. but definatly play them all.

My fav franchise by a country mile. It's not as stealthy as SC - if you mess up a kill you can shoot your way out of a lot of situations.

The first one was buggy and I don't think you'll be running it on an OS released this decade... but number 3 consists of remakes of most of the original's missions anyway. I'd say play 'em in chronological order - number 3 & 4 have a linked story. Oh, and the movie was pap - it did not do these games justice. Enjoy

The 3rd game in the series (contracts) is a bit a remake of the 1st game with some new missions thrown in. The story is told in flashbacks, so even if you have no luck getting the 1st game working on XP you can still follow things.

Hitman 2 is the longest and has the most varied missions IMO. Story-line is fairly straight forward. Kill people for money, add a dash of revenge, hey presto.

Hitman 4 (Blood Money) is very cinematic, tense, and has a good story-line. And also has one of the best endings in game history. It's up there with 'the reveal' from KOTOR 1.

Blood Money is easily the best in the series in my opinion. Havent played it for a while, but I can remember the level when you're at that street gathering. The amount of NPC's was amazing

I played hitman 2 so much that when I played the others I had already got tired of the series.
That us purely to me excessively playing hitman2 though, the entire series are good

I thought the first one was the best, it was really original and novel at the time, fantastic game, its the only one ive completed.

I've only played Blood Money. It is a little difficult to get into, so I'd definitely try starting from the first game if you have the opportunity.

It really is a very, very good game. I will play though the older games one day if I get the chance.

Great series, with quite a bit of re-playability due to all the different assassination options as well as different disguises.

Blood Money definitely has the most options, but I still haven't played it!

Definitely worth a try. If you can't get the oldest one to work properly it shouldn't matter too much. I really like the Hitman series because you can just about pick up any of the games and play on with just a little bit of backstory, as opposed to having to know the plot analysis inside out

The only reason I'd say to start with the old ones is because the game doesn't have all that much replayability value - once you've spent ages walking around and finally figured out how to complete a mission stealthily there's not all that much drawing you back to it, really. You'll want more things to try so you're better off getting them all. The older games have some fun missions and it will help you enjoy the newer ones just that little bit more.

If you liked the film, you will LOVE the games probably....as they are about 5 times better.

The most recent two I just love, played through them a fair few times actually.

I was pretty disappointed in the film to be fair

I played a huge amount of Hitman 2 and Have completed Bloody Money a few times now. Bloody Money is easily one of my favourite games.

Yep Hitman is a really good serie, played pretty much all of them I think. Blood Money is really good
